The only way to get better at presenting is simply .... to practice, practice, practice!
Why was this group formed
We liked the idea of creating a friendly environment, where software developers could practice and get feedback on their presentation skills.
Yes, there are already groups out there to practice general public speaking. But we are in the tech space, and we liked the idea of being able to present more technical material without alienating non-techies. Also, presenting to fellow developers means the possibility of receiving more domain-specific feedback.
And lastly, audience members will enjoy attending simply to learn about something related to software development (as well as make mental notes via observation on how to improve their own future presentations ;) )
We also observed that we are called to "present" a lot, not just in front of a projector with slides. We often make "self presentations" for conferences, project proposals, networking events, hackathons, etc. The round robin breakout sessions allows all attendees a chance to practice and improve their presentation skills!
We will have meetups every 4-6 weeks. The first meetup will have a two-part format:
We need volunteers to present!
We are looking for as many volunteers to present as possible! If you are interested in speaking, please get in touch with us, as well as look at our Volunteering to Speak page for presentation format details.
