TTW will be providing a free picnic before the TTW walk from 5:00 to 6:00 pm in the Cutting Garden Gazebo, which is located across the Water Garden from the Monet Deck, with the Japanese Garden on its west boundary.

For this walk’s photo collage, the photos of the large Nebulae resembling the hibiscus flower came from the web site of the Galaxy Garden in Hawaii at http://www.galaxygard....

In your RSVP comment section, let me know if you will be coming to the pre-walk picnic, or call me, Fran, at (303) 321-1064. Except for the 3 free DBG admission tickets mentioned at the end of this walk description, for additional tickets, TTW participants must be either a DBG member, or pay the regular DBG admission price.

Walk Co-Hosts Richard and Fran Rew will be joined by a wonderful new scheduled Walk Co-Host, Linda Viray. Linda will lead us in a 3-5 minute walking group dance movement into the Japanese Garden. Linda has been a Jazzercize instructor since 2004 with the Aurora Jazz Center (http://www.aurorajazz..., and the Jazzercise on Capitol Hill, Denver Jazzercise center (located across the street from East High School off of Elizabeth Street). Linda said, "I was born and raised in the Philippines. I've lived in Denver for over 25 years. My husband David and I have two Welsh Corgis, Opie (the monster) and Bat Boy. I've been a Jazzercize instructor since 2004. In my spare time, I teach English as a second language to immigrants and refugees."

Scheduled Walk Guests: Our “Plants to Planets” Walk Guests, Cathie and Tim Havens, owners of S & S Optika, have been active members of the Astronomical community for 35 years.

Their love of Astronomy and the beauty of the night sky have kept them active in programs that share this love with others. The new location of their store, 6579 S. Broadway, in Littleton offers many new opportunities to share their knowledge and understanding of Astronomy, Telescopes, and Binoculars with interested persons.

In addition to helping the Denver Astronomical Society (http://denverastrosoc...) with monthly “Star Parties” at DU’s Chamberlin Observatory, and other club events, S & S Optika now has the opportunity of hosting it’s own “Star Parties” in their “back yard”.

Impromptu Walk Guests and Walk Co-Hosts: Because this walk is taking place during the week of the Denver Democratic National Convention, other impromptu Walk Co-Hosts and Walk Guests are invited to sign up and introduce themselves in their profiles for this walk.

After Walk "Star Party": Following the Topic Talk walk in the Denver Botanic Gardens, Tim and Cathie Havens will host a “Star Party” in Cheeseman Park (Franklin Street and 8th Street, just behind the DBG). Parking and porta potties are on the south side of the pavilion. Featured that evening will be views of Jupiter, a double star named Alberio, the Hercules Cluster, and many other objects, weather permitting. Please join the group for a fun and educational evening.

Pictures of a recent “Star Party” with the Havens, and views of the beautiful Cheeseman Park “Star Party” area are at http://walkers.meetup.../.

Richard Rew will be bringing his telescope to the after-walk “Star Party” to share the joy of expanding our spirits out into the stars. Walk Co-Host Fran Rew said, "For over 25 years, as sporadically active members with the Denver Astronomical Society, we’ve had many happy memories of sharing the love of astronomy and ‘Star Parties’ with Tim and Cathie.”

At the DBG ticket booth, TTW has 3 free DBG admission tickets for the first 3 TTW audience walkers who tell the ticket booth attendant that they are registered for the TTW picnic and walk. Our new Walk Co-Host, and Walk Guests will also be getting free tickets. Everyone else must either be a DBG member or pay the regular DBG admission price. DBG members are encouraged to share their family memberships with family, friends and other TTW walkers for this walk.

This TTW walk is not sponsored by the DBG. Walk Co-Hosts and many TTW members are fond supporters of the DBG.

Marvelous!! The picnic in the cutting garden gazebo was delightful. Then walking and talking with Tim and Cathie Havens, with frequent intermittent sit-down locations to listen to their fascinating "Plants to Planets" presentation. I loved Tim's cosmological explanation of how the beginning of the elements in the universe of stars was the beginning of the composition of plants. And then Cathie's explanation of how farmers used to use the position of the Pleiades star cluster, and the phase of the moon to determine the right time for planting, weeding, and harvesting. Then, the after-walk astronomy "Star Party" was the best! Surrounded by the green grass open space of Cheeseman Park on a beautiful night with clear skies, what a stellar delight! We looked at the M13 star cluster, the Alberio binary star (Bronco stars - orange and blue), and Jupiter with 3 of its moons.
    •  I really enjoyed the astronomy and looking at planets and stars. I just wish it had been darker (city lights) so it would have maybe been even brighter to see them. What a nice event!
    •  Enjoyed short talks given, first by Tim Havens, followed by Cathy Havens. Awed by my first clear view of the "Ring Nebula," made visible in the Havens' larger telescope. Communications was a problem, when trying to get everybody directed to the suddenly-changed telescope site, near the South end Cheesman Park. Suspect that some late-comers would miss-out.
