Last time in "A Song of Ice and Fire", the crew of the Weeping Willow travelled up the White Knife, stopping to take shelter at Winterfell, the home of House Stark. While there, they were greeted by Robb Stark, the current lord of Winterfell, and his Maester, Luwin. Each of the people greeted Stark and thanked him for his hospitality(all but Theden, who decided to wait outside for fear of being discovered). While visiting, Liem was vaguely insulted by Theon Greyjoy, who was soon thereafter insulted back, being shut down by the clever retort and storming away. Theden bought supplies, garrons and a cart to travel North beyond the Wall. Starks behaviour the next morning was less than welcoming. Luwin gave them the reason why....Richard Canmores family was based upon the foundation of traitorousness. During the War of the Conquest, Canmores family rose against House Stark when King Torrhen bent the knee and had their lands reduced. Many years later, their family took the side of House Blackfyre and their lands were stripped from them. Angry, Richard stormed off. Liem asked Luwin to find out more and for Dalben to check historically the truth behind this. Liem was shocked to hear that Baelor was a son of a noble house from Maester Luwin and proceeded to ask him where to go. His castle remained near the bank of Long Lake, where Liem decided the group would take refuge before travelling further to the Wall.
While some of the crew travelled with the cart and the horses, Liem proceeded up with the Weeping Willow and Baelor, who had packed several barrels of ale in the hold. Upon arrival at Long Lake, Baelor helped a young woman out of the barrel. Liem, angry to say the least, demanded to know who she was. The woman was lady Cerenna Stormguard, who had received the crown of love and beauty from Baelor at the tourney of White Harbour. Liem struck Baelor many times and shoved him into the water on the riverbank, asking if he had forgotten his oath. Baelor told him straight that his life was Liems and handed Liem his valyrian steel sword. When pressed, Baelor stated that he was the younger son of House Blackforge, an old Northern House and loyal to the Starks. Baelors older brother Aegon had done wrong in the past and his family was considered cruel for this. He had attempted to take Cerenna with him before, but he had been made an outcast for this. Liem, worrying about retribution, gave Baelor his sword back and ordered him to make the castle ready for the crews arrival.
Inside the large castle, Tyene Blackforge, Baelors mother greeted them. She told the group of Aegons cruelty and how she had given the ancestral sword to the younger brother Baelor, not the elder son. Her husband had died during Roberts Rebellion. Liem stated his intention, to defend the castle from House Stormguard, should they come running. He quickly hatched a plot to avoid bloodshed, which involved marrying Baelor to Cerenna and making a peace this way. Liems' silver tongue again came into play, convincing lady Tyene to make Baelor the official heir to Blackforge Hall, and therefore a much more suited husband to Cerenna.
The group met Petyr Stormguard on the shores of Long Lake. Petyr, though thinking the group vagabonds for siding with Baelor, listened to Richard, Theden, Liem and Martyn. Martyn was able to sweet talk the group, using his singers charm. Petyr was convinced and the wedding occured. There was many a song and dance to be heard, the cloaks were exchanged beneath the branches of the Great Heart Tree in the Godswood, the bedding occured, Richard got very drunk and the group was once more at peace. The next day, Liem and Theden were called to Tyenes quarters. Tyene spoke of Baelor not being the son of the same father that died in the battles of Roberts Rebellion, that she had been raped and how she was horrified that the child of her kind husband was a monster and her bastard son was soft and kind, suggesting by her look at Theden that she may have known who he was. Liem and the group, given gifts from both Baelor(a scroll granting them access to proceed Beyond the Wall to the Nights Watch) and Cerenna(a signet ring emblazoned with the sigil of House Stormguard, a Hammer on a shield with lightning bolts). Now the two families, were joined, the Heart Tree and the Hammer and the group sped north, finally, after days of travel, seeing the great icy expanse stretching for thousands of miles....The Wall.
