"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it...[i]t is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience...there have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate that they have the privilege to see." (Ann Patchett, Bel Canto (2001:218-219).
Welcome!
If you are over thirty and/or mature and interested in film, food, literature, painting and theatre, this is the meetup for you. We see mostly arthouse, independent and international films (and the odd mainstream). So far, we've chosen six book titles: The Cellist of Sarajevo, Bel Canto, Push, Birds of America, Bel Jar and one other. Sorry, we won't be reading popular fiction like The DaVinci Code, self-help and new age books or anything by Don Cherry. Meetups also include art gallery visits, plays, day trips, bowling, Raptor games, Sunday brunch, coffee, tea and anything new and interesting. Please only join if you are sincere and don't cancel all the time like so many meetup members. Two no-shows and chronic cancelling will get you booted.
Book Club update: we are reading Birds of America for the next meetup.
Its content is only available to members.
To learn more, contact the organizer directly, or you can go ahead and join the group.
