Happy secured new year!

Please join us for coffee if you feel like hearing my rantings about...

  • Selecting an IPS for an enterprise class organization
  • ITIL v3 and information security
  • I got a new job - update

Selecting an IPS (Intrusion Protection System) - Which one is best?
I recently participated in a project to select a new IPS to be deployed in parallel with the system that we currently manage. Requirements, budget, and integration... it has been quite an experience. We tested 5 different vendors, and the final report will be quite extensive. Because non-disclosure policy, I will not go into any specifics, but simply a high level overview.

ITIL v3 and Information Security
In ITIL v2, Information Security Management was a subset of Availability Management, one of the 10 processes of version 2.
ITIL version 3 has been reorganized (I don't think "expanded" is the correct word) into 26 processes, and Information Security Management is now a process by itself, not a subset of a process.

Information Security Management in ITIL v3 is covered in detail in "Service Design" and "Service Operation", but it is also mentioned in context throughout the other services.

I am currently preparing to become certified in ITIL v3
UPDATE - I passed the exam. I am now certified in ITIL v3

New job
I decided to pursue an opportunity with a very different perspective of information security. My first day in this new role will be January 17 2010
UPDATE: This is delayed now :(

Thank you,

Marcos
