Wye Marsh & Sainte Marie Among The Hurons

Wye Marsh & Sainte Marie Among The Hurons

Guided Canoeing, Hiking, Historical Day Trip

Good Day Nature Lovers!

We have a wonderful day planned for the Toronto Nature Lovers. We will be visiting Wye Marsh and Sainte Marie among the Hurons for both a nature and historical tour.

Wye Marsh and Sainte Marie among the Hurons is located less than 2 hours away in Midland, Ontario. Wye Marsh was established as a National Wildlife Area back in 1978. It is famous for not just it's beauty, but also for their endangered Trumpeter Swans rehabilitation and reintroduction program. Wye Marsh is one of the rare places where you can see these elegant Swans.

Sainte Marie among the Hurons was designated as an Canadian National Historic Site in 1920. Settled by the French Jesuits Priests in 1639, it was the first European settlement in what became known later as Ontario. The Wendat Village and Jesuit settlement stands recreated on its original location where the compelling story is brought to life once again.

You will learn about the life of the Wendat People and how they lived in the 1600's before the arrival of the first Europeans. We will then learn of the Iroquois and Wendat War that broke out and the violent struggle and the martyring of 8 priests.

This will be a great day of nature and a trip back to the 17th century. I really hope that you can join us for this enjoyable day out.

Our day will begin at the York Mills Subway Commuter parking lot on the northwest corner of Yonge Street and York Mills/Wilson Ave.

We will meet for 7:45 am where we will board the bus, departing at 8:00 am sharp. Travelling up to Wye Marsh, we will make one rest stop on the way up at a Tim Hortons in Barrie. Then we will journey to Wye Marsh where we will be treated to a guided hike along with a guided canoe trip into the marsh. We are using large canoes with 10 people per canoe. So don't worry if you have no canoeing experience. This will be very easy, you can sit back and relax and don't even have to paddle if you don't want too. You can take pictures of the beautiful swans, frogs, turtles and of course the beautiful landscape.

After our visit to Wye Marsh, we will be heading to the nearby Sainte Marie among the Hurons where will be having lunch. There will also be a vegetarian option.

After we finish our delicious lunch at Restaurant Sainte Marie, we will be greeted by our guide for our tour of the historical Saint Marie among the Hurons.

Sainte Marie among The Hurons is a must see Canadian historical landmark. You will experience what life was like in a 17th Century in the Huron-Wendat Settlement and learn the story of the Sainte Marie Among The Hurons and the work of the French Jesuit Mission.
