Spring has sprung and there is plenty of new growth out there to discover! Join Karen Stephenson, author of the field guide: "Fields of Nutrition" (http://www.ediblewildfood.com/) who will be sharing her wealth of knowledge of wild edible plants on an educational walk through High Park! Many of these "weeds" are actually very nutritious and medicinally useful as part of a daily diet or in a survival situation.

Note: Karen has opened up twenty spots for this event for TSG members.

Cost: $20 upon arrival. Kids under 18 free.

Event Details:

- Comfortable walking or hiking shoes or boots are recommended.

- Bring some water in a reusable bottle

- You are welcome to bring a camera (no video cameras please) and something to take notes with

- Dogs on a leash are welcome

- Free parking outside grenadier Restaurant

- Washroom facilities are available on site inside Grenadier Restaurant

- We will meet in the parking lot, in front of Grenadier Restaurant. Here's a map for those who are unfamiliar with the area: http://grenadiercafe.com/pdf/map.pdf

- This is a highly interactive event so please bring questions. Due to the large numbers of questions (which are absolutely encouraged), this will likely not be a very long walk in terms of distance.

There will be a waiting list as I appreciate matters come up a couple days ahead of time and cancelling is required.

These walks are proving to be very valuable - a good way to really learn what wild plants are edible.

Karen, Starr and I had an excellent time getting some hands on instruction on wild edibles from you. We've had the books and foraged for the very few items we can safely identify before but there is nothing like having someone with the experience and skill such as yourself to teach the things that just can't be learned via a book. We also very much enjoyed learning a lot of the nutritional benefits that are lacking in a lot of the resources we have read.

Kudos. We will attend another for sure. For anyone else that has not taken part in one of Karen's instructions: I highly recommend it.

This was an amazing event that provided many specific examples of edible plant types as well as a broader conceptual understanding of alternative food sources. I'd rate it as a significant eye opener and transformative gathering.

For those who attend the walk at High Park I will be selling my Fields of Nutrition at 50% off - $5 per copy. It is a 63 page book contains identifying information and colour photos on 30 popular edible weeds, including nutrient content, health benefits, as well as interesting facts. It comes in a handy 5.5" X 8.5" size. Slip it easily into a pocket while out foraging for food!

Hello everyone! I'm looking forward to meeting you all! Rain or shine we will meet on the west side of the Grenadier restaurant. Looking at this Google Earth view the roadway around the restaurant looks like an eye.... there is a grass area on the west side...... that is where I shall be. Please time yourself accordingly to be there at 1pm especially if it is really busy in there! Thank-you everyone! https://maps.google.ca/maps?oe=u...

Just to warn everyone, I was volunteering at the High Park Zoo on Sunday and traffic was unimaginable, bumper to bumper, due to everyone one coming to see the cherry blossoms this month!

It was a 30 minute crawl from Parkside to the Zoo parking lot (where there was no parking!).

If you see cars bumper to bumper going in and out of the park, then park on a side street and walk in or don't take the car if you can help it.

    See you Saturday.

    All my best.
