Making Portable Stoves

We will be demonstrating a variety of handmade stove styles. Each person will then have the opportunity to make their own small wood burning stoves from tin cans. So, raid the neighbor's blue box or save your own, as each person will need a minimum of three cans. Two, 28 ounce cans and one 10 or 12 ounce tin. If you want to go a little larger for more heat and less refills, bring two 3 pound coffee cans (the kind made from metal, if you use the cardboard type, they only work once) and one next size down coffee can or a 48 ounce juice can. Do Not Remove The Bottoms From The Cans. If you have any metal working tools please bring them. We need, tins snips. files, can openers, "V" shaped can openers, sharpy type felt markers and perhaps a knife that you do not mind forcing through metal. We will have a few extra tins and tools that members can use, but it is always best if you arrive self-sufficient.

* Please bring leather work gloves *

This event will be hosted by Joe & Doug, Organizers of The United Survivalist Network of Ontario.

Note: This event will be held outside. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking on uneven terrain and dress for the weather. This event will be held rain or shine, however for safety reasons will be cancelled in a thunder storm.

Thanks Doug for showing us all the many stoves you have made vs the store bought and sharing which ones work best depending on the type of trip (eg. camping or canoeing). Thanks also for giving us the opportunity to create our own pop can alcohol stove & wind screen, tin can hobo wood stove & cooking support and tin can rocket stove! It was alot of fun and valuable skills to have learned!

Sorry for being a no show. I was at the right place but the wrong time. I'll save my tins and beer cans for the next stove making workshop.

Sorry you missed us. We generally go to one of two sites and this was not the same location as the map meet-up.

Sorry for being a no-show. I didn't put the entry on my calendar. No valid excuse. Will double-check my future RSVPs for this group to make sure I don't make the same mistake.

I have enough pop cans to make 6 - 8 alcohol burning pop can stoves. If we have extra time after the wood stoves are complete, we can make these stoves. Ideally, you will need to bring a pair of small scissors, an awl, ruler and if you have couple of empty pop cans, please bring them also. If you can not bring all these items, do not worry, it just means that we will have to share.
