We will show how to modify a vinyl tarp and by incorporating a small wood-stove, we will turn it into a heated shelter.

This event will be hosted by Doug, Organizer of The United Survivalist Network of Ontario (USNO). If you are not currently a paid member of USNO, you will be required to pay $5 upon your arrival to this meetup.

Note: This event will be held outside. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking on uneven terrain and dress for the weather. This event will be held rain or shine, however for safety reasons will be cancelled in a thunder storm.

I had a good time! Lots of good info and great tips! It was really helpful that the demonstration included a working stove in a real life scenario. Great job Doug and Heather!

Despite the cold it was great to reconnect with the group again since last summer in Huntsville. Thanks to Doug and Heather. You taught me many new winter survival tips today.

Is this location accessible by public transit?

    January 25, 2014

    • Frank M.

Yes. It's accessible from the south via the Kipling North bus that departs from Kipling Subway station, or from the east or west via the Steeles West bus. A quick Google or TTC search should be able to provide the best route for you to take with approximate commute times.

It's not pretty, nor is it a finished product, but I'll bring my stove with me.

We seem to have a lot of interest in portable wood burning stoves. If anyone has the type used for heating as opposed to just cooking, you are welcome to bring it along. We can either discuss them in the parking lot or carry them the 200 or so meters to the site.

I've been working on a diy pack stove to give hot tenting a try. I'm looking forward to this event!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
