Headwaters Earthskills Gathering

  • May 10, 2012 · 6:00 PM

MAY 10-13 This event is OUTSIDE of the City in the Grey Bruce area about 2 hours away

Please register directly on their website. We can arrange ride shares here or through the Headwaters Group.

The Headwaters Community started in 2007 with the intention of creating space for like minded people to come together to share skills, knowledge and inspiration with each other. The focus of the gathering is around learning and passing on ancient skill sets of living with the earth as hunters, gatherers, sustainable farmers and stewards ; cultivating a deep relationship with the land and knowledge of the natural environment that supports all life. With this knowledge we can empower our ecological and cultural footprints in the modern world and become more resilient in the face of change, as individuals and as a community.

It is a gathering of focused skill training, workshops, story telling, trading goods, sharing knowledge, and celebrating life. Music and socializing are encouraged but we ask that people DO NOT come for those reasons alone. This gathering is FOR people who wish to learn more about the skills offered in the workshops. It is NOT a music festival or camping get away.

The gathering has grown from a small group of friends “working skills” in the back corner of a farm field to an inter-generational community atmosphere with more than 150 people of all ages, experience levels, ancestral lineages and occupations. We create space for children, youth, families, adults and Elders to come together in a safe and supportive environment where learning can happen in an exponential way.

Workshops vary from year to year. Some potential workshops include:

- Children and youth activities/workshops (offered every gathering)
- Friction fire making such as bow drill and hand drill
- Modern & survival fire lighting techniques
- Emergency first aid and medicine
- Wildlife tracking
- Edible & medicinal plants
- Archery and archery competition
- Making musical instruments
- Primitive traps
- Traditional hide tanning
- Blacksmithing basics
- Biodynamic gardening
- Bird Language
- Water Purification
- Primitive weapons
- Leather work
- Martial Arts
- Knife Making
- Stick Bow Making
- Basket Making
- Felting
- Yoga
- And more!
