Hello to all of you!
Welcome to those who have joined TorontoBabel recently and thank you to all 83 of you who joined us last night!
First, thanks to everyone who has already voted for the TorontoBabel Immersion Travel Grant in the Aviva Community Fund. For those haven't heard of it, the Aviva Community Fund is a chance for people to submit ideas for ways to improve the community and Aviva (an insurance company) donates $1,000,000 to fund the top 10 ideas. In order for us to be among the top 10, it's very important that you VOTE! Without the votes, we cannot win...so if you haven't voted, please do so! You do have to register, but once you're registered it's very easy and you can vote every day.
Please vote!! Here is the link to our proposal (called Global Community through Language and Cultural Exchange):http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf5912
Second, we will have our usual gatherings every Wednesday this month, so come and join us. If you haven't been out with us for a while or if you haven't come out to one of our gatherings yet, consider coming out soon! The group has grown a lot recently and it's been really fun.
Lastly, in the spring we talked about maybe going curling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curling)
, but it didn't work out due to lack of available times. I'd like to try and get this going again, but I need a rough idea of how many people would be interested. I've emailed the company that organizes these outings to find out some prices, but it likely depends on how many people come. I don't think it would be particularly expensive, but I'll let you know. So if you're interested in going curling this fall, please let me know!
Looking forward to seeing more of you next week!
