New Date - Saturday May 24! (Sunday for recovery!)
Lets hope for some sunshine and a nice warm day. The Bike car will most likely not be running, so we won't be able to be a large group on the GO. We also won't be able to sit in a group, but as 4's (2 bikes at the front/back of each car)
Length - 165 km, 100 miles!
Pace - 25-30 km/hr
Temperature - 13-19°C
Route - mostly road, some trails.
Map - http://bit.ly/1kOU0WJ
Road bike recommended - Intermediate or Advanced Riders
Leave Toronto 7:43, arrive Aldershot 8:48.
The route is off the usual Niagara path, but I rode the first part of it last October, and it was a much nicer ride than the usual service roads with the added benefit of winery stops! We'll be passing century homes, and riding through various small communities that speckle the landscape between Hamilton and Niagara.
I'm hoping to lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake at an old favourite, the Irish Harp Pub, across from the historic Prince of Wales Hotel. There's also the Epicurean for those with a more refined palate that's a block or two away.
Heading back from Niagara, we'll continue to stop off at wineries as time allows and I hope to be back at Aldershot around 7ish, with a dinner at Hutch's Grill around 5:45-6:00 pm.
At the end of the day, we should have ridden 100 miles, and can enjoy the train back to Toronto and have Holiday Monday to rest up from any aches or pains.
Please make sure that your bike is tuned up and ready to ride!!! Dropping out will be problematic - you'll have to rely on GO bus service, and it's hourly, with only room for 2 bikes on the front rack and possibly 2 in the luggage compartment. If the forecast is for cold weather or rain, I will reschedule two weeks Saturday.
