Century Ride to Niagara Falls 25 km/hr RETURN 7:20 train

Important note.  There will be TWO meetups for this ride.  One to catch the 7:20 GO train back to Toronto, and one to catch the 10:30 train.  Please only RSVP to one of them!!

Both groups will stay together until Port Dalhousie.  At that point, the 7:20 group will bike directly to the train station in Niagara Falls, while the 10:30 group will continue on to Niagara-on-the-Lake and visit some wineries and have a relaxing dinner overlooking the Falls, most likely at Milestones.

Unfortunately for the 7:20 group, it won't be a full century (100 miles) unless you loop around Niagara Falls a few times.

This ride is for experienced cyclists with good equipment. If you're not able to bike 25 - 30 km/hr you will have to proceed on your own. There will be plenty of drop out points where you can catch transit back to Toronto if you run into mechanical or health problems. I'll give out my cell phone via email a day before the ride, if you run into problems, please text me. I'd like to keep stops to a minimum and to what's listed on the map/below. Also, if you want to join the ride at a point other than the start, Humber Bridge, or Port Credit, let me know where to expect you, but be warned, we may be far ahead or behind schedule.

Running a bit behind schedule, sorry. We'll start off from the Humber Bridge 10 minutes late probably.

My road bike is at the shop for repairs and am contemplating this ride on a hybrid/mtn bike. Any one else in the latter category or have possibly done this distance/route on a heavier bike?

    August 8

    • David B.

I think a couple others might ride on a hybrid bicycle. If that's your only bike I would say try it. You could always drop out at Oakville or other places and take go train back from there if you cannot keep up.

Thanks for your replies. I realize it's a risk not having the right gear and spares as well. Hate to miss it!

Shucks, really wanted to go on this, but something's come up. Looks like you're going to have perfect weather. Have a great ride!

Hi Gang, I've added a second meetup for this event - riding the full 100 miles and having dinner overlooking the falls. Please feel free to rsvp to either event. http://www.meetup.com/TorontoBikeMeetup/events/193537352/

Karl, there's limited bicycle space on the Go Trains. I don't know exactly how many spots there are. I think we did get 25+ bicycles on the last time we went. Btw, lots of people cancel last minute, so join the waitlist if you want to come.

20 Limit because it is not just us on the bike train.

Any idea how busy the 7:20 train will be? I'm worried that I will be forced to put my bike on the bike car, and I don't have a lock since I never leave the bike outside.

    August 8

    • Michael C.

Charlie, I highly suggest buying and bringing a lock. We've never had a bike go missing yet!
