JEFF'S MODEST DOWNTOWN RIDE

Hi everyone! This Saturday morning let's do a modest downtown ride, connecting up several nice off-road downtown cycling trails.  This ride was quite popular in the past (see e.g. http://www.meetup.com/TorontoBikeMeetup/events/74523872/) so let's do it again!  We'll start and end at Pauper's Pub near the Bathurst Subway Station.  We'll zig along Harbord/Dewson/College to the delightful Rail Path.  Then we'll zag along Pelham/Kingsley/Symmington/Davenport/Landsdowne to the hidden gem Prospect Cemetery.  Then a short hop along Eglinton/Caledonia/Bowie to the amazing Belt Line, which takes us all the way to the lovely Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.  Then down the scenic Moore Park Ravine, and up into Rosedale, before returning along Sherbourne/Wellesley to Queen's Park and then Harbord and back to Pauper's Pub.  Please join us!

APPROXIMATE ROUTE MAP: http://tinyurl.com/jeffdowntownbike

ROUTE LENGTH: 25 kilometers, in about two hours

ROUTE TERRAIN: Mostly paved, but some parts of the Belt Line and Moore Park Ravine are dirt paths and could be a bit muddy.

BIKE TYPE: I think this ride should be fine for pretty much any type of bike, though the few unpaved sections might be a bit more challenging for very thin racing tires.

ROUTE HILLS: Mostly flat, but there are a few moderate uphills in the first half (which I will take SLOWLY), and one large uphill towards the end (which I am going to WALK). There are also some fun downhills in the second half, especially in the Moore Park Ravine.

MEETUP TIME: 10:15 a.m. on Saturday July 5.

MEETUP LOCATION: On Lippincott Street just south of Bloor, next to the Pauper's Pub patio. Steps from the Bathurst Subway Station, and across from a "Green P" parking lot. Look for tall hairy Jeff with a red bike and grey helmet.

AFTER THE RIDE: Interested persons may wish to go for lunch on the Pauper's Pub patio.

I hope to see you there!

Best wishes, Jeff

Thanks Jeff for a wonderful ride. I walked up the hill near Glen Road; too steep for me.

Tentative yes, with wide tires to make for a lovely hill climb at the end! ;)

Albert - Hybrid/Mountain. Slim chance of the Fixie making an appearance.

By the way, we'll pass by the Eglinton West subway station at just past the half-way point, in case anyone wants to drop out then.

    Hi.What would be the pace(km/hr)?

    July 4

    • Jeff

A modest pace, probably averaging about 15 km/h.

Would have loved to join, but reluctant because my bike's thin tires not too well suited to muddy or gravel paths.

Well, if you want then you can skip the muddiest bit like Arthur is planning to. (It's towards the end anyway.)

  • Arthur

Jeff, mind if I skip the Moore Park Ravine and rejoin you at a later point? My bike is not really up for the gravel-y trail.

    July 3

    • Jeff

      Sure, no problem.

Alas, can't make it. Have fun!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
