Century Ride to Niagara Falls 25 km/hr RETURN 10:30 train

Come and experience one of the best rides in Ontario.  We will be riding a full 100 miles, (160 km) through some of the most scenic (and flat!) counties in Ontario.  We will be visiting at least 4 wineries and dining overlooking the falls.

By RSVPing to this meetup, you are committing to eating dinner in Niagara Falls with the group and taking the later train to Toronto as I have to guarantee our dinner reservation!  If you want to take the earlier train back, please sign up for this meetup ->
http://www.meetup.com/TorontoBikeMeetup/events/190826542/

We'll leave Toronto at 7:30 from the Humber Arch Bridge and push onto Port Credit Starbucks for breakfast. We'll make several scheduled stops and I anticipate arriving in Niagara-on-the-Lake by 5:00 p.m. We can visit some wineries, and then head up to Niagara Falls for Dinner. I'd like to be in the falls before 7:00 p.m. and have dinner at Milestones by the falls. (It was awesome last year) We'll have a leisurely dinner, and bike over to the falls for night viewing.

Part 1 to Port Dalhousie

Part 2 to Niagara Falls via Niagara-on-the-Lake
https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=z7gZbLCizQ84.k8Woryu8BIZM

This ride is for experienced cyclists with good equipment. If you're not able to bike 25 - 30 km/hr you will have to proceed on your own. There will be plenty of drop out points where you can catch transit back to Toronto if you run into mechanical or health problems. I'll give out my cell phone via email a day before the ride, if you run into problems, please text me. I'd like to keep stops to a minimum and to what's listed on the map/below. Also, if you want to join the ride at a point other than the start, Humber Bridge, or Port Credit, let me know where to expect you, but be warned, we may be far ahead or behind schedule.

Speed:
25-30 km/hr

Length:
160 km - 100 miles.

Terrain:
Mostly Flat, 1 up-hill before Niagara Falls along with some hills along the bench.

Running a bit behind schedule, sorry. We'll start off from the Humber Bridge 10 minutes late probably.

    August 9, 2014

  • Ray G

If your start point is port credit does that qualify as a century?

    August 8, 2014

  • Judy P

Just a thought - since Michael puts so much time and effort into organizing this ride if everybody put in $1.00 from both the 7:20 departure and the 10:30 departure we could pay for his dinner as a thank you. I have not posted on the 7:20 ride, so maybe $2.00 a person from this ride, unless you spread the word. Not much per person to say thank you to Michael?

What time is the group expected to be at the port credit Starbucks?

I will join up in port credit at Starbucks

    August 8, 2014

Dumb question but is there a safe spot to lock bikes by milestones i.e. bikes are in view. I am not too keen on leaving my bike to be nicked. Ride sounds awesome!

    July 9, 2014

    • Leona

Are we all expected to bring locks? Just wondering how many people are actually bringing one.

I will meet you at the Oakville Starbucks. Would 9:30am be reasonable?

Glenn, make sure you read the email I'm sending out tonight and text me the morning of the ride, otherwise you may miss us. We usually fly by that Starbucks early.

  • albert

Hey Michael, I'll meet everyone at the Miss. Starbucks about 8:45-ish. Pls give me your credit card info and I'll order breakfast for everyone ok? :)

    • Michael C.

Actually, the cheque is in the mail. ;-)

      August 3, 2014

  • Naomi

I've always wanted to do the Niagara wineries so would it be okay if I met you at Tim Hortons in Stoney Creek? If I can't keep up, c'est la vie. I will be happy. :)

    August 2, 2014

    • Michael C.

We will look for you in Stoney Creek. I will be emailing out my cell number later this week, text me Saturday morning and I will give you our ETA.

      August 3, 2014

  • Kasia K.

Hi Michael, I will have to break off with the group for the 7:20PM train, unfortunately, so please don't count me in for the Milestones reservation. Thank you!

    July 25, 2014

    • Leona

Can I take Kasia's spot for dinner? Since I'd like to bike all the way to the falls. I'm already signed up on the other meetup so we can just trade spots.

      July 29, 2014

    • Michael C.

Kasia, please RSVP for the 7:20 meetup. I invite you to show up the morning of, even if you're still on the waitlist!

      August 3, 2014

  • Susie

I notice there is double booking for dinner and without dinner?

    July 29, 2014

    • Michael C.

Hi Susie, you are correct. This meetup is for those staying for dinner, the 7:20 is the early return.

      August 3, 2014

  • Roberta

I'll be taking the early train back to. Toronto. Not sure if you need to know this.

    July 19, 2014

    • Michael C.

Hi Roberta, you'll have to sign up for the 7:20 train meet up.
To ensure I have figures that I need for the reservation this meet up is only for those taking the later train back.

      July 19, 2014

  • Roberta

    Hi Michael

    July 19, 2014

  • Seany G

I don't have a road bike. How necessary is this?
I was on the Andy's TAIL (emphasis added) ride to Port Credit last week, and managed to keep up at the slower speed of 20km/h. Will I be out of my league here? Are there suggestions what I can do if I want to be part of the dinner but find myself overwhelmed? [e.g. take the train ahead?]
    Please advise.

    July 9, 2014

    • Seany G

Thanks for the info. It may seem like splitting hairs, but I think 25km/h is doable, but maybe not 30. I will try it out keeping your backup suggestions in mind. Will you/ someone bring the GO schedules along, plus maps, or should I search & download?

      July 10, 2014

    • Michael C.

http://www.gotransit.... For the GO Niagara Schedule. I will be bringing along maps, but check out the two links in the description. I spent a few hours crafting these maps and they fit our route exactly.

      July 13, 2014

  • Judy P

How come its limited to 15 this time?

    July 9, 2014

    • Michael C.

Hi Judy, I'll look at expanding it, however, there are already 20 people confirmed for the earlier train, and I'm not comfortable leading more than 40 people without a co leader over 100 miles!

      July 9, 2014

    • Judy P

weird, it says 6 going, 9 spots available,,,?

Signed up but worried about the 30km an hr pace for 160 km? Did Stoney Creek to Niagara about a month ago with TBN with 100 plus riders - was awesome! We stayed over and ride back the next day!

    July 10, 2014

    • Judy P

Hi Susan, its not an average - its just doing 30 kph on flats,,, I have ridden with you. you can do it easy. I did it two weeks ago, we averaged 24 or 25 at the end of the day - flat ride, nothing like riding in Finger Lakes NY or Ellicotville NY. not to worry at all!

      July 10, 2014

    • Michael C.

Hi Susan, sounds like you won't have a problem at all with the ride.

      July 10, 2014

  • Leah S.

Wish I could make it. :(
