End in Ice Cream Ride: Scarborough edition

We'll do a ride through a series of very nice bike trails in Scarborough and end in a well deserved cold treat. We'll start at Victoria Park TTC station, head north to enter the Gatineau Hydro Corridor, and come south to join the Highland Creek Trail. From there we'll ride through the park to Port Union. After a brief stop for lunch, we'll come back on the Waterfront trail through the residential areas of Scarborough. This part of the trail is hilly at times, but we'll end at Ed's Real Scoop at Queen East for a nice round of ice cream. Here is my attempt at making a map of the trail:

The total distance is around 50 km. We'll mostly be on bike trails (the Gatineau Hydro Corridor and Highland Creek trail) and quiet residential streets (Waterfront trail on the way back), but there will be some short adventures on busier roads (Kingston Road, Victoria Park, Queen St.) This ride is suitable for any type of bikes, but I would like to keep a pace of around 25 km/hr.

Some of the roads at the beginning of this ride (Vic Park, Dawes Rd)were very busy and not favourable for cyclists. Perhaps there's alternates for this section. Other than this, a very enjoyable day out on the bike. Thanks Arthur.

Ya, a little busy if you are not use to riding on the road. I usually prefer riding on the road, you can just go faster but the trail was very nice today. I never took the trail at the end. P.s. did you guys go for icecream after? Thanks for hosting Arthur!

Did everyone get wet? I got home at 1:30 and at 1:45 it was raining.

We saw the rain coming and hopped on the GO train at Guildwood.

I think that was a good idea. The headwind was crazy heading back and it did start to rain

    Hi all,

The ride will proceed as planned for tomorrow. The weather forecast calls for rain in the late afternoon, and we should be done with the ride before the rain starts. Also, there are GO train stations along the way (Rouge Hill, Guildwood) and the trains are running every 30 minutes tomorrow. A few items:

Be prepared for rain! Roads could be slippery. We will be on paved trails or streets and will avoid muddier parts. I will be bringing a rain jacket just in case.
Lunch options: I plan to stop at Port Union for lunch. Options are limited (a couple of fast food joints there). Bring your own lunch/snacks if you feel like doing so.
I will be waiting at the exit to Victoria Park Ave. from the station. I will be wearing my usual bright orange bike jersey.
We will *not* end our ride at our starting point. Please plan accordingly
I look forward to the ride tomorrow! I did a test run last week, and it was very nice. Again, my phone number[masked] if you need to contact me.

is there any public parking near 777 Victoria Park?

    August 6, 2014

    • Arthur

The TTC station has parking, and I think they are pretty lax on the weekends. You can also park near our end point, which is not too far from Victoria Park station. You can also take the TTC, which is probably the most convenient.

You can use to find free parking. I did a search and took a screenshot for free parking near the starting location https://lh3.googleuser...

Wow - what a great route - RIGHT in my 'hood! But alas - I can't make it Saturdays. If ever you do this on a Sunday - I'm there!
