Ride to Holland Marsh from Finch

Let's do a quick 110km jaunt to the beautiful Holland Marsh this Saturday.

Leaving from the Finch Station parking lot we'll head up Dufferin to Keele, and then make our way north past Davis drive, do a loop of the marsh and then head back down south along Bathurst.

The ride should take us about 4.5 hours to complete including a rest stop at the market store in the marsh. That works out to an average pace of better than 25km/h. There are only a handful of easy/moderate climbs on the route, nothing anyone who rides regularly should worry about too much.

We'll be relatively far from developed areas so please ensure you are self sufficient for repairs in case the need arises.

It is a really scenic ride and the marsh land area is just beautiful this time of year. Hope to see you all there!

Greg, the site is http://www.bikejournal.com. Basic membership is free but you can upgrade for more features. Aside from keeping track of time, speed, distance and other numbers it has very good discussion groups. You can also keep track of your bike parts so you know how many km your tires or chain has gone. I post on there as MLC40 (the name of my bike). If you're not busy on Sep 8, the Expocycle show is having a public day. It's normally for people in the industry only but they're letting in the public for one day. You can't buy anything there but you can get an idea of what's coming for next year or figure out what you want to order from your shop now. It's free but you have to register at http://www.expocycle.ca to get a VIP pass (question: if it's free and anybody can get one, is it really VIP?).

I reckon it's the same thing as nightclubs that have people standing in line to make themselves look better. Maybe they think more people will go if they're called VIPs? Thanks for the link, it sounds like a good site and I'll check it out tonight.

Okay fixed!! I just went on a solo ride to Clarkson and back. It's hot. I hope all of you made it back safe and sound and without sunburns.

I just edited the track now:

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/215273263

111km, avg. moving speed of 23km/h. It was a very good ride, return leg was challenging with the headwind and the sun and heat.
Steve, what is that site you said that is good for uploading cycling data? Would appreciate if you could post it or PM me with the URL.
Andy, thanks again for putting together a great ride!

Hey Judy, we're glad to have you join us for the first time! You'll find the group diverse, friendly and easy-going, I'm sure. A road bike will be ideal for this ride and bikes sporting Bontrager parts are always welcome.

Sushank, dude that sucks; it was all dry between Toronto and Oshawa on Sunday. Just bring your sunscreen for this ride and all will be good :-)

Hey Judy, yes it is this Saturday. It was previously scheduled for this past Sunday, but didn't go ahead. I think you'll agree that the marsh was worth the effort getting up super early on a Saturday to make it to Finch for 8:30. It really is a nice ride.

After a 30/90 km ride in the pouring rain on Sunday, I'm all up for warm rides!

I hear you. 110 km is boring alone. Most I do alone is 50k. I'm planning to do 80k tomorrow. Let's see how successful I am.

    Aww, too bad.
If no one else signs up I'll just join Donald's ride a little later, so no worries. But I really want to go to the marsh, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have to back out. Work kept me in Kincardine! Sorry andy :-/

Sushank, I think maybe I worded that a little harshly. The ride is fairly easy, so as long as you can keep spinning your pedals all should be good. Here's a link to the route
