Our Monthly Philosophy Dinners series continues with event #12:
What is the meaning and purpose of life?
Has your answer to this question changed over time?
Are you still working on your answer? If so, rest assured you are not alone. :)
This event will be an opportunity for us to share our insights, theories, thoughts, and experiences with regards to this topic, and explore what some of the great philosophers of the past and present have to say as well. (As usual, further questions and quotes will be provided to the discussion facilitators).
Just for an added twist, I'll be giving everyone the option to submit your answers to this big question anonymously by writing (or printing) your answers on a folded piece of paper and entering them into a container when you arrive to the event. (Your answer could speak to the question of meaning and purpose for your life, for life in general, or both). We will mix up these submissions thoroughly and divide them up so that our discussion facilitators will then have the option of reading these out loud at random throughout the event. Obviously this can be a very personal topic for many people and in my experience I've found that anonymous insights can provide contributions that may otherwise remain locked up within the realm of shyness or fear of judgement amongst strangers; despite the safe and inviting atmosphere which we provide. As an added bonus, I will be emailing out the full list of these anonymous submissions to the attendees after our event.
New Discussion Facilitators - I am here to recruit you! :)
The successful formula for our events involves having one discussion facilitator at each table. (Facilitators still have just as much of an opportunity to contribute their two cents to the discussions). We've been fortunate enough to have some of our members step up as 'regular facilitators' for many of our events, and now I'd like to give them a break for this event and ask if some of our other members would like to rise to the occasion and help out in this regard. We need 6 facilitators for this event since we are opening up this event to 36 people (at 6 tables). If you appreciate what this group has to offer and you'd like to help us out then please add a comment when you RSVP for this event indicating that you'd like to help facilitate (see image on right). The more facilitators we have in general, the less we'll be calling on you to help out. :)

As with all of our events, I will be providing our facilitators with various (optional) questions to pose to our group. No facilitation experience is required and don't worry, our regular facilitators will be present for this event just in case you need any assistance.
No formal philosophy experience is required to participate in any of our events (either as a facilitator or as a regular guest). All that is required is that you are open-minded and respectful of your fellow guests.
- If you would like to attend this event then you need to sign up as a member and RSVP for this event on-line through this website.
- You do not need a PayPal account in order to pay for this event. (Look for the link that allows you to pay with a credit card without having a PayPal account).
- Latecomers will not be admitted (after 7:15). We`re being flexible on this considering the weather
- Admission does not include the cost of your dinner.
Arrival time is 7:00pm at which time everyone will be provided a seat at one of our reserved tables (6 people max at each table). We will start our discussions at 7:15 once people have settled and have ordered their drinks/food. As a courtesy to your fellow attendees and to the facilitators, please arrive on time.
