A Cheap Evening At The Horse Races (Woodbine Racetrack & Casino)

How cheap an evening you ask? Well, the parking is free and there is no admission fee to see the horse races so if all you want to do is to hang out with us and just watch the races, well, your entire evening is free. That's pretty cheap I'd say!

If you have never attended horse racing in Toronto, this is a perfect evening to do so with the group. If you want to bet on the horse races, you might have wondered how much money you need to place a bet on a horse. The answer is -- only $2. Yes.... minimum bet is just two dollars!

The very helpful customer service people at the racetrack have again offered to provide betting instructions to our group -- so whether your interest is in putting down a $2 bet on one horse, or whether you want to be more experimental and want to put down larger bets on exactors, triactors and superfectas, this is a great opportunity to come out and get some lessons.

If you would like to attend the horse betting instruction being provided by the staff at Woodbine, I recommend that you try to get there for 6:30 PM. Not to worry if you miss this, there will be TSG members with betting experience who will help you.

There are typically 10 races in an evening with about 10-15 minutes between each race. This provides lots of time to chat, laugh, brag about the fact that you just won, or, cry & whine because your horse didn't win. I'll warn you -- sometimes there's a lot of screaming and shouting as the horses are in their final stretch approaching the finish line so be prepared to do some cheering and yelling of your own.

Dining

If you feel like getting something to eat or drink, there are lots of restaurants, bars and a food court. You are allowed to bring the food back to your seat so you can be eating and cheering.... although I don't recommend doing both at the same time. Not nice for the people seated next to you!

Parking

The best place to park is towards the west side of the building. This is labelled Horse Player Parking on all the signs. The main parking lot tends to be very busy with the patrons of the casino and you may end up far away from the building. Follow the signs for Horse Player Parking.

Meeting Point

I will be standing near the Customer Service desk in the main horse racing area on the 2nd floor until 645 PM. After racing starts, I'll be in the seats with the rest of our group. Look for the Toronto Social Group sign in one of the seating sections.

Arrival Time

The first race is at 6:45 PM but you can join us at any time that evening and leave at any time you wish. If you wish to play the slots, the casino is downstairs, directly below the horse racing area so if you are not having any luck at the horses, you can always try your luck at the casino.

Please remember to bet within your financial means and this should be an evening filled with a lot of fun and a lot of laughter and merriment. And if you happen to win thousands of dollars, the drinks are on you!

See you there!

Nice tos ee you again Sash after all these years. It was fun. I should have, however, listened to the 'Horse Whisperer' Catherine herself and made the same picks she made lol.

TY for providing the URL! Right now the win odds are not posted on that page though. Do you know if the page will be updated with the odds tomorrow?

      September 17, 2013

    • Nick

hi Jason, the odds fluctuate consistently based on how the public is betting. However, the race officials make rough predictions and set 'morning line odds' or 'MLO' in the program. For example in race 1 horse 'Sweet City Song' is set to MLO of 20. That means they figure it'll be a longshot for sure. This doesn't mean it will end up racing at 20-1 though, the public might like it and it could offer lower final odds. Conversely , it could go off at even higher odds. The main board and TVs around the track will show the ever-changing odds for each horse .

FYI - in addition to the 37 bus, you can take a much faster TTC express bus from Kipling station. 191 bus.

    http://www.ttc.ca/Routes/191/Northbound.jsp

Another option is the GO bus from either York Mills or Yorkdale station. It is the one that goes to Humber College along HWY 27. It stops right near Woodbine.
