With all the different cuisines that we have tried over the years, we have never been to a Hakka restaurant. The best way of describing Hakka cuisine is to think of Chinese food, but cooked in an Indian style.
I have tried most of the Hakka restaurants in Toronto and I was impressed with this establishment. It's clean, the decor is a step above most other Hakka joints, the food is very good and the service is prompt. Can't ask for more.
As usual, I have arranged for a multi-course lineup just for our group where you get to experience lots of different dishes. Tonight we get to try 4 different appetizers and 8 different main dishes for a total of 12 dishes. Add in the rice & pop and you're up to 14 different items on our menu!
Tonight's menu is not suitable for vegetarians. Here is our menu for this evening's extravaganza. You get to try ALL of the following:
• Cottage Special Pepper Chicken
• Vegetable Roll with Plum Sauce
• Chicken Pakora
• Vegetable Pakora in Manchurian Sauce
• Mumbai Beef
• Chicken 88 Special
• Spice & Pepper Tofu
• Chili Shrimp
• Hakka Fish
• Chili Mixed Vegetables
• Hakka Eggplant
• Mixed Hakka Noodles
• Steamed rice
• One pop
I have asked for all of the dishes to be mildly spiced. If your palate prefer a more spicy experience, the restaurant will be happy to provide you with hot sauce on the side.
This restaurant is located on the north west corner of Pharmacy & Ellesmere, one block east of Victoria Park and a couple of blocks south of Hwy 401.
Parking is limited in this strip plaza but there is lots of parking at the Staples directly across the street on the south side of Ellesmere. Please feel free to park there and walk across.
A number of TTC buses including the Pharmacy 67, the Warden 68 and the York Mills 95 stop directly outside the restaurant. Please check with the TTC for further details.
This is a very small and busy restaurant and we have been allocated 24 seats. To prevent issues with last minute cancellations and no-shows, I am making this a prepaid event. You will be prompted for payment when you RSVP. Payment can be made online using any major credit card or Paypal. A Paypal account is not required.
The price of the dinner is $32 ($25 + tax and tip). This includes the food described above, one soft drink and green tea at the conclusion of the meal. Please pay your servers for any other drinks that you may order.
Cancellations with full refund will be allowed up to 3 days before the dinner. See the "Refund Policy" link near the top of this event description for more information.
I hope you will be able to join us and I look forward to seeing you there for some yummy Hakka food. The staff at the restaurant have promised me that no one will go home hungry so elastic waistbands are recommended... as usual. Waddle waddle!
