Chef Curtis Martin on his new spot:
“We’re hoping people will make this a regular dining destination, rather than a ‘special occasion’ restaurant.”
*Snort* We're going to "special-occasion-it-up" anyway!
For the last few weeks, I had suffered from Analysis Paralysis. I just couldn't decide which restaurant to hold Part 2 of our 2nd Anniversary celebration. I even had dreams of various restaurant names floating around my head...kinda like counting sheep but a bit more stressful (for me anyways!).
What makes a particular restaurant celebration-worthy anyway? Let's examine the last couple of venues:
- Sushi Kaji for our 1st Anniversary
- Jacob's Steakhouse for Part 1 of 2nd Anniversary
Food at both places was exquisite...but at a hefty price tag. I spent $180 at Sushi Kaji and $170! Don't get me wrong, both were definitely worth it. But can we celebrate for under $100? I'd like to believe the answer would be "yes".
So here were the options I had been tossing around:
- Patria (feel all tapas'd out lately)
- Restoran Malaysia (too far)
- Harbord Room (my tried and true go-to place so we've been there, done that)
Then I realized that Harbord Room's sister resto, THR & Co. had opened up! That settled everything...finally.
The food at THR & Co. is a mix of Mediterranean and North African influences. And if Harbord Room is any indication, the quality will be top-notch. Sounds strange but I'm mostly looking forward the lighter colour palette for the decor. Although I used to be a fan of darkly-painted walls in most trendy restaurants of late, the darker schemes are starting to make me feel I'm eating in jail!
