Envisioning A Better Future--Barter and Idea Exchange

  • Apr 15, 2012 · 11:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

WHERE: Kew Gardens Park at Queen and Lee, behind the Gazebo and baseball diamond, at the picnic area

WHEN: April 15th, 11:30AM, potluck at 12:00

WHO: Members of different meetup groups into alternative living and health, alternative spirituality, and  human potential. Please approach us if your group wants to be part of this.

Exchange your  ideas and talents; everyone has good ones, now is a time to network with others to learn what you want to know more about. Aliens? Alternative Health? Veganism and Animal Rights? Survival? Spirituality? Indigo Children? Intentional Communities/Co-ownerships/Co-ops?  Ask experienced people questions about things you want to know more about. Help other people learn more about your areas of expertise.

Barter your talents and goods; everyone has talent now is a time to market them. Can you heal? Teach? Entertain? Write? Create something of value? There are people who want your help and/or goods and they don't even realize you are out there. If you have books or DVD's on these subjects and want to distribute them or trade them, bring those along, too. Paying money, bartering, or trading in exchange for your own goods or service are all acceptable.

Share your food; we are advocating a sustainable, small footprint diet so it will be a vegetarian/vegan potluck. We do want to spread the idea that animals deserve a life of freedom, too, with a side effect of better health and wellness for humans, and better use of the planet resouces.   Please bring any kind of vegetarian dish, with a label that has the ingredients, as well as a dish to eat from and utensils. Also, bring an old blanket that you can use to sit on,  if it starts raining, as we will have to move to a sheltered area, close by.

Let's have some good, clean fun, too.  More now than ever we need to bring positivity into our lives and the lives of others. This is an event where you can express your physical side too, connect with new people, and laugh. Bring music and dance. Bring yoga mates and strike a pose.  Bring frisbees, baseball equipment, volleyballs or board games, like Scrabble, for the cerebral types.

WHY: The old way of doing things is coming to an end. People are waking up to the knowledge that the vast majority of the 'crap' marketed out there is either snakeoil, harmful to yourself or the environment, or just something you don't really need. People are waking up to the knowledge that our financial world upon which our society is based, is on the verge of total collapse, so let's envision a new way to run our society.

Now is the time to create a networked Toronto community to not only survive, but thrive with like minded people who want to bring change into their lives and into this world. This event is all about exchanging what you have to benefit yourself and others in a positive way. We may have different interests, understandings, beliefs, values, and lifestyles, but to truly survive and thrive, we need to accept those differences and focus on what brings us together. There will be multiple meetup groups attending this event which provides a huge opportunity to accomplish this goal. We will also take names and emails of those interested in forming an intentional community, based on these ideals.  If it is successful, we will be doing this every Sunday, in Kew Park.

Be there or be square!

I'll tell ya. It was a bit rocky at the beginning just getting to know each other and speak our minds. Especially with the material at hand, it was just a bit ungrounded at the start because I think we were just all really happy that there were others in Toronto that think at this level. I've been around this material before but it was just exciting hearing the various backgrounds of everyone who attended. We are definitely meeting again!

One of the most cogent practitioners of sacred activism will be speaking at OISE on Tues. evening. Her name is Julia 'Butterfly' Hill. She spent over 2 years in a 1,000 year old redwood, protesting clear cutting old growth forests.

She (Julia) appears in the following film: (available on you tube)

Please bring your own pen, because you will be given 2 sheets of paper, one to list goods, services, and information you may have to offer, the other to list goods, services, and information you are looking for. We will be going around to each persons sheets to see if they have what we are looking for or what we want. If there is a match, simply list your contact details in the space provided on the sheet. Having an idea of what you want an can offer will help.
