TP@10 Hike 1/8

Join us for a great POWER-HIKE through Torrey Pines! "Power-Hiking" means we keep a brisk pace and consider these hikes a workout (not sight-seeing). Please keep that in mind before joining the group. We meet just inside the South Torrey Pines Reserve Entrance, at the picnic table across from the bathrooms, at the bottom of the paved road.(click on the map link above for exact location) Parking is free along the beach or $12 in the lot. We will only wait until five after, so please be on time. We typically hike anywhere between 4-9 miles, depending on the tides & what the majority of members feel like doing that day. Hikes can take anywhere between 1-3 hours. There are several options for cutting the hike shorter if you have time constraints. Hikes will only be cancelled due to illness (and not being able to find a sub) or heavy rain (an e-mail will be sent out that morning). Any other questions, please e-mail me. See you on the trails!! ~Lyssa

Thanks Lys for upping the mileage. After going back up the hill and down again I bumped my mileage to 9 this afternoon. And I STILL have energy to burn! Didn't crash out like I though I would. :0)

I'm looking forward to hiking Torrey Pines, this will be my first time hiking here; usually just hike Mt. Woodson, is there anything I should know/bring? I just wear my running clothes and shoes; does that work?

Oops. Ignore my previous reply, if it was posted. (I think I accidentally hit "send" before I was done.) Anyway, what I was going to say is that I hike there once a week. I used to wear tennis shoes, but after buying a good, sturdy pair of hiking boots that I used at the Grand Canyon, I much prefer wearing those because the beach can be full of pebbles, if the sand is washed out from the surf. Also, the hike up to the top is a chore, if you're not used to hiking up something steep.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
