The Tour de Cure Training Ride series continues with a loop in the Champoeg-French Prairie area, south of Portland. Two road distances (16mi / 38 mi), and an option to stay "in park" on bike/walking trails. With the exception of exiting the park (where a very short "I may need to walk" incline gets us out of the park), the short course is flat. The long course has a single steep grade at the midpoint. Meet at the Riverside Day Use area of Champoeg State Park (skip the visitor center entrance lot, *NOTE* $5 day use fee at the Ranger station, then turn left and follow the road about 1 mile - look for the Tour de Cure banner).
*2014 NEW Riders - Continuing our enhanced “meet and greet”, new riders will be offered tags so that everyone can make them feel welcome. Most importantly, help them find ride buddies for the day, so nobody is riding alone on the road.
*Post-Ride Lunch. Riders and volunteers are invited to a post-ride lunch at Lil Cooperstown Pub & Grill (705 N Springbrook Rd Newberg, OR 97132). Especially for new riders, we'd love to tell you about Tour de Cure - the ride, the fundraising effort, volunteering, and how we got involved. Bring your own cash, and save some space for the support volunteers at the table (we'll be late, for obvious reasons! Probably close to 1pm)
This is a full-support "ride your own pace" event, with sweeper cyclists bringing up the caboose. Light breakfast breads and fruit will be available at the sign-in table. This is a volunteer-supported activity, so a donation bucket is on the table to help us defray the costs (any donations happily accepted with thanks!)
A water stop will be available for the long route. Support vehicles will be available by cell phone, so make sure you pack one of our cue sheets along.
Helmet, water bottles, and a signed waiver form for every rider is required (see links below). Only printed name, signed name, and date of ride is required on the form.
Cyclists do not have to be registered for Tour de Cure, but we will be happy to tell you why you should join us at the July event and fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. Please RSVP above so we can have enough breakfast food.
