Trail Mix Hiking

My 100th Hike with Trailmix will be Shaw Butte with Indian Ruins exploration.

Join me for My 100th hike with Trailmix this will be an eveninghike up Shaw Butte! I plan on having party favors to hand out for the celbretory hike. Also if anyone would care to join me after the hike I plan on going to Ammaccapane's Restaurant & Bar (at the NW corner of 7th St and Thunderbird Rd) for a celebratory brew or two.  So come out and celebrate this momentous ocasion for me. We'll start at the Dollar Tree Parking Lot and take the #100 trail into the preserve. When we hit the #306 trail, we'll take it CLOCKWISE . We'll go up to the summit and then back down the other side.  Part way down the other side there is a little known off shoot from the main path leading to the peak of a small summit dotted with Indian ruins.  The beginning is flat which allows for a warmup. Then we will hike a short steep climb to a saddle which will then take us to Shaw Butte. The majority of the climbing is packed into the middle and it's very steep with some loose rocks.  From there we will hike to the summit, take a break, and then head down the other side of Shaw Butte. We will then take the off shoot take a break and explore the ruins.  Afterwards returning to the main path and returing to the Dollar Tree Parking lot. You're encouraged to bring snacks, a camera and  at least 1+ liters of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear. You should also bring a flashlight and/or a headlamp.

ELEVATION GAIN: 600 ft
TRAIL STYLE: Lollipop style clockwise
DURATION: 2hrs

DOGS: Yes, if leashed
