Lets hike the Alternate trail to the Summit of Piestewa Peak! This is the second largest summit in the valley. We'll gather in the parking lot on the right hand side before the entrance to the park. The alternate trail begins accross the street from this parking lot and goes to the left circling up to meet trail #300 (summit trail) about a quarter of the way up. The advantage of this trail is that you skip that quarter of the stairmaster trail wich is really nice on the knees specially on the way down. We will continue up trail #300 to the summit. The summit will provide us with spectacular nighttime views of Phoenix. We'll enjoy it for a bit before coming down the same way. This is a short but steep uphill hike. The trail is rocky but stable, with lots of step ups. We'll take it at a moderate pace and make stops as needed, however due to elevation gain this is a strenuous trail for fit individuals. Evaluate your skills accordingly. You're encouraged to bring snacks, a camera and must bring at least 2+ liter of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear. You should also bring a flashlight and/or a headlamp as we will be hiking in the dark.
DISTANCE: 2.5 miles roundtrip

DIRECTIONS: Follow the Google map link above to Squaw Peak Drive. The parking lot to the right just before the gate is where we will meet. If it's full, park further down the road and walk back. Try to arrive early in case of parking delays. And Please let me know if you cannot make it or are running late.

It was a great hike Chuck, though me and Elizabeth did't make it through with the group :) . Most of all, thank you for your great concern. That was very nice of you for coming back on the trail looking for us and making sure we are okay. A+++ for your great leadership. Thanks again.
