This hike is rated VERY DIFFICULT.
The National Trail is a major endurance test. It traverses the entire length of South Mountain park. We'll start at the easternmost trailhead (Pima Canyon) and cross all the way to the San Juan Lookout near the western edge. This is a one-way hike, I have arranged for pickup around 3:00pm to shuttle us back to our cars, hence the limited RSVP count.
DISTANCE: 15.5 miles!
ELEVATION GAIN: 1200+ feet!
DURATION: ~7 hours!
TRAIL STYLE: End-to-end
DOGS: Have mercy, no!
FACILITIES: Water fountain & bathroom
WEBSITE: Trailmap
DIRECTIONS: Follow the Google map link above to Pima Canyon Rd and park in the lot at the end of the access road. It's a little tricky to find, best route: I10 exit 157, west on Elliot Rd, north on 48th st. Pass Piedmont Rd, then after passing La Mirada Way turn left to stay on 48th St. (Note that last turn is not at a light and can be hard to notice). Make another immediate left onto Pima Canyon Rd. You'll see the gate, kiosk and some golf courses as you enter the preserve. Parking can be tight, so arrive 15 minutes early!
See you at the Finish Line.........I'll have snacks and beverages waiting for you......
Kaveh, you might want to send this back out again as you opened EIGHT more spots after the original Annoucement, and many saw that it was already filled.......

If you're doing the partial (10 mile) hike, meet Rene at the Buena Vista Lookout at 9:30 am. The main group will sync with her along the way. Here is the meeting point for the partial hike:
