Come out for an evening hike to the Summit of North Mountain... twice! This is a strenuous climb incorporating parts of the #44 trail, the backside trail, the #60 trail, a "secret" trail, and the paved road, all in a large figure eight style loop with the summit at the cross-over point. This will allow us to climb north mountain twice from two different sides! There's lots of steep climbs and descents with slippery rocks, only experienced night hikers should attend. You're encouraged to bring snacks, a camera and must bring at least 2+ liters of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear. You should also bring a flashlight and/or a headlamp as we'll be in the dark during this hike.
DISTANCE: ~4 miles roundtrip
ELEVATION GAIN: 650 ft (2x)
TRAIL STYLE: Figure eight loop (∞)
DURATION: ~3 hours
DOGS: Yes, if leashed.
FACILITIES: Bathroom and water fountain (maybe locked at night)
DIRECTIONS: Once you get to 7th St and Peoria, you'll enter the preserve and find there are several parking areas here. We'll meet by the Ranger Station across from TEWA area 5. See this parking lot map. Do NOT go to the Visitor Center, that's the wrong place entirely! :-)
