This hike is rated DIFFICULT.

Come out for an evening hike on the Holbert Trail, part of the 2013 Phoenix Summit Challenge! This route offers us a strenuous workout but rewards us with a fantastic night time view of downtown Phoenix from Dobbins Lookout. We'll pause at the top for a bit before heading back down the same way. You're encouraged to bring snacks, a camera, and must bring at least 2 liters of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear. You should also bring a flashlight and/or a headlamp as we'll be in the dark for much (or all) of the hike depending on the time of year.

DISTANCE: 4 miles roundtrip
ELEVATION GAIN: 1000 ft
DURATION: 2 hrs
TRAIL STYLE: In-and-out style
DOGS: Yes, if leashed.
FACILITIES: Water fountain & bathroom (maybe locked at night)
WEBSITE: Trailmap
DIRECTIONS: From Central Ave and Dobbins Rd, head south to enter the park.  Immediately after the entrance gate, make a left turn.  Pass the South Mountain Environmental Education Center (SMEEC) and near the end of the road park by the trailhead.  You can find the trail and parking area on the far right side of this ramada map near the Activity Complex.

You should do it for charity instead! Saturday morning Water for People will be there to raise money to provide people in 3rd world countries access to clean drinking water. You can even win prizes if you carry the most amount of water up to the lookout point.
