This is a joint event with the Phoenix (2 hour) Beginner Hikers group. Join me for an evening Christmas hike up Shaw Butte! We'll start at the Dollar Tree parking lot and take an unmarked trail into the preserve. When we hit the #306 we'll take it COUNTER-CLOCKWISE around and up the partly paved trail leading to the top.Up at the top, we will enjoy the nighttime view, hot chocolate, holiday cookies and whatever goodies you would like to contribute. The beginning is flat which allows for a warmup, but then the majority of the climbing is packed into the middle and it's very steep but gradual. We will come down the same way we came up. Half way down, there is a tree that is decorated for the season. Let's add to the fun and bring an ornament that you are willing to part from to add to the tree. You're encouraged to bring a camera and must bring at least 1+ liter of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear. You should also bring a flashlight and/or a headlamp as we'll be in the dark during this hike.
Let's make this as festive as possible! Dress up in GREEN or RED and wear a FUN HAT!
