Let's celebrate the New Year by hiking the Summit of Piestewa Peak! This is the second largest summit in the valley. We'll gather by the base of trail #300 and take it straight up to the top. The summit will provide us with spectacular nighttime views of Phoenix. We'll enjoy it for a bit before coming down the same way. This is a short but steep uphill hike. The trail is rocky but stable, with lots of step ups. We'll take it at a moderate pace and make stops as needed, however due to elevation gain this is a strenuous trail for fit individuals. Evaluate your skills accordingly. You're encouraged to bring snacks, a camera and must bring at least 2+ liter of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear. You should also bring a flashlight and/or a headlamp as we will be hiking in the dark.
DISTANCE: 2.5 miles roundtrip

Mary, we can still park pass the gate as long as we are in the park before 7pm. They don't close the gate leaving the park until 11p. :)

I believe the gate closes/locks at 7 p.m. there is a parking area on the right before the gate. I think this will be an awesome hike!
