White Cliffs of Dover - Saturday 6 April (by high speed train)

The iconic White Cliffs are a symbol of England. Since Julius Caesar searched for a place to land here in 55 B.C. they have welcomed many a visitor, and have offered protection from many an invader. A formidable barrier, the cliffs rise over 100 metres from the sea and provide breathtaking views across to the continent.

We will start from Dover, with the castle perched high above the town, marking the beginning of the eastern cliffs. We will walk up to the lookout post used by Winston Churchill and then along the National Trust trail. This makes its way past the South Foreland lighthouse, scene of the first international radio transmission, and then on to St Margaret-at-Cliffe from where the most adventurous of swimmers begin their cross-channel attempts.

We will walk further along the coast, before finishing the day, as we usually do, with food and drink in a local pub.

Meet: London St Pancras International - near Starbucks (street level) opposite the large time-table board. It is marked on the station map, please see the following link: http://stpancras.com/The-Station/Station-Facilities

Click on Station Map tag, then on the actual picture click on the "Lower Level". You will need the area called "The Circle". Play around it with your cursor and you will find Starbucks.

Meeting time: 9.45 am (leaving on 10.10 high speed train)

Price: £33 (covers travel and a full-day guided hike). Please pay before the trip using the secure PayPal link at the top Price does not include meals and drinks

Distance: 9 miles/15 km

Hike level: easy to medium

Estimated return time to London: 9PM

Things to bring: waterproof clothing, hiking boots, camera - if you would like to take some pictures, water, packed lunch, money for end of day pub dinner

Tempting - I might be interested in buying someone's space. I will know for sure by tomorrow.

Guys, this is a message to those who want to sell their spots. Please do not sell your spot AND change your RSVP to NO on the site. What happens is once you've changed your RSVP to NO any member of the group can book your spot via Paypal. So we end up with double booking: one person paid to you and one person paid to us - both for the same spot!!! If you intend to sell your spot, please keep your RSVP as YES, let the organiser know who you sold your place to, and I will make the necessary changes to your RSVPs. Thanks! Tania
