Medway Valley Lakes and Woods Trail - Saturday 15 March

Join us as we follow a trail across the scenic countryside of the upper Medway Valley in Sussex. Straddling the Prime Meridian, from which the world is measured, our route is one of beautiful rolling hills, picturesque woodlands, and alluring lakeside views.

The trail begins in East Grinstead, a country town noted for its historic 14th century timber-framed buildings.

Walking eastwards across the zero degree line we will head through pleasant fields along the Sussex Border Path, leading us towards the Weir Wood lake. Skirting close to the waters' edge we will cross back over the Meridian and then take in the gorgeous hills and valleys of the High Weald Landscape Trail.

We will finish, as we usually do, with food and drink in a local pub.

Meet: London Victoria train station - outside Monsoon, marked as 36 on the following map. It is not far from platforms 10 and 11. http://www.networkrail.co.uk/documents/For%20Passengers/Station%20Maps/4510_Victoria%20Station%20Map.pdf

Meeting time: 10.00 am (leaving on 10.23 train)

Price: £26 (includes transport and full-day guided hike) Please pay before the trip using the secure PayPal link at the top Price does not include meals and drinks

Distance: 15 kms/9 miles

Sunshine, hooray! I missed it all winter - and it was plenty of it yesterday! Thanks, guys, for a totally enjoyable day out!

There was warm sunshine and the daffodils were in bloom. We had a working steam railway and the occasional beautiful country house. And of course we had ponds and lakes galore, as well as the 'mighty' River Medway. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on a great day out!

This hiking trip was organised very well. I enjoyed the fact that the pub was there waiting for us after a final steep hill climb. Thank you as always for a fantastic experience :-)

We've had a couple of weeks of dry weather which is set to continue into the weekend. Even so, the ground is still saturated and conditions are expected to be wet and slippery - so make sure you have your hiking boots. These will keep out the water and a good tread will provide grip in the mud. (Please no wellingtons!)
