For those interested in carpooling from Denver, I suggest meeting at the Park n Ride off 88th and Sheridan. This is the Sheridan exit from Hwy 36. We will meet there at 8:05am and leave at 8:15am. We should arrive at the trailhead around 9:15am, which gives us some time to get our gear on and start at 9:30am. ** If you are carpooling, it is assumed that you are staying for the après snowshoe at the restaurant. If that isn't the case, please don't carpool....**
Get to the town of Eldora, which is after Nederland. Go west through Eldora. Stop before you run into the winter closure.
Dogs Allowed: Yes!!!
If memory serves (it has been four years), we hike about 1 mile from the closure to get to the trailhead. Then about 1.35 miles in to get to the lake. If the trail is really packed down, we might nail the lake pretty quick. We can then add a little extra if people are feeling up to it. Here is a description of the trail;
Should bring emergency headlamp, snowshoes and/or micro spikes, hiking poles, extra warm gloves & clothing, protective eyewear in case of extreme wind exposure and blowing snow. Full face masks highly recommended. Hand and toe warmers are a very good idea!! Also bring extra water, and plan for what to do in case your Camel Back Water Tube freezes up. Bottled waters will freeze solid as well...we know this from recent experience!
By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and will do the necessary research to understand the conditions of this hike and the gear you will require.
TBA - either Nederland or Boulder. Still working on this, I am open to suggestions.
