Camp and Hike Jefferson area

Since the last camping trip was such a hit, let's do another one!

This will be a Dog friendly and Kid friendly trip

This is primitive car camping only, so make sure to bring plenty of water and all the gear you will need and of course some adult style beverages to relax with around the campfire.

The Plan: To do a group camp in the Jefferson area that will allow folks to do their own hikes, mountain biking or fishing and have a relaxing atmosphere to come back to and socialize around the camp fire. There are many trails to hike or mountain bike in the area (Mt Guyot @ 13,370 ft, the Colorado Trail, West Jefferson Trail...) or lot's of fishing to be had (Jefferson Lake, Upper and Lower Michigan Resevoir). I will lead an easy hike on Sunday along the West Jefferson trail and plan on doing some fishing Saturday after setting up camp. So bring your boots, bikes, or poles and let's have a good time!

Directions (if you don't want to convoy): From Conifer take the 285 south for 37 miles to the town of Jefferson. As soon as you come into town you will want to turn right onto Michigan Creek Rd (Park county rd 35). As you take Michigan Creek Rd at mile 2.8 it will fork, stay to the right (turns to dirt road here). At mile 5.3 the road will again fork, stay to the left this time. At mile 6.3 it will open out to a large meadow with large pine trees that can accommodate a lot of people. For those technology savy people, the GPS coordinates for the camp site are[masked], -105.888551.

You won't need a high clearance vehicle for this as the dirt road is fairly well maintained. I've seen a mini van all the way at the top of Georgia pass following this route.

When you RSVP please note whether you will be camping, convoying with us, or just coming up for the day.

I had a great time! I was talking with a few of you about a camp stove that burns wood. It has a USB port that will charge an iPhone from the heat of the burning wood. Check this out: http://www.biolitestove.com/campstove/camp-overview/features/

REI has them. Perhaps we should try it out next trip. I read the reviews. The basic gist of them is that it is hard to get a good charge out of it.

So I talked to a park ranger at the south park ranger district and there is a level one ban. The county (park) has gone further and said no open fires. Grills, camp stoves, anything with an on off switch is ok. Micah- if your back yard fire pit has an on off switch then it is ok to use.

Given the fires burning in various places and the poor air quality for the Front range..I will step out of this event. Sorry to miss it.

I really hate to miss this, but my sister is coming in from out of town. I hope someone will organize another camping trip in July (hint, hint)!

I don't know the area, but would like to do a fairly easy hike. Anyone up for that? By easy I mean 4 - 5 miles.
