Patapsco State Park, Avalon Area

Meet at the Avalon Playground area and hike the Morning Choice Trail then possibly take the dogs to a beach and let them play. When we meet at the playground, we can decide how long we want to walk. We could be joined by members of the "Happy tails on the trails" Meetup group.

On weekends, the Patapsco State Park entrance fee is $3 per person.

Directions once you enter the park

The address (5120 South Street, Baltimore, MD 21227) gets you to the park entrance. After turning in the park entrance, please pay the entrance fee at the booth. Continue straight ahead (for about 1.5 miles) and when you reach the intersection, take a left (there is not an option to go forward, you can only turn left or right). Follow the road (about 100 yards) until you pass a large colorful children's playground on your right. There is a parking lot at the playground.

Great hike and good company! Wore Maxi-moo out! Thanks again, Wayne, for taking the lead on this and bringing the map. And, thanks Rachel, for helping out with your trail app. The weather turned out to be great. Sorry some had to miss out. Hope to see you next time.

I almost didn't attend today's hike because it was raining at home as I started to leave but I saw all of the posts from everyone else saying that they were going so I decided if you guys could do it then so could I. I'm so glad that I listened to you guys because it turned out to be a beautiful day for a hike and I really enjoyed talking with everyone.

For Saturday's Patapsco State Park hike, keep an eye on the weather because right now there is a 60% chance for rain. I plan on being there but if it is raining or if the weather looks ominous, we may have to cancel our hike.

Also, wear sneakers with good traction (or trail shoes/boots if you have them) because we may be hiking on some dirt/rocky trails which will be similar to the Ridge Trail that we hiked last time. There is a chance of rain every day this week so we will have to wait and see what condition the trails are in at hike time. If we think the dirt/rocky trails will be to muddy and slippery, we might just stick with the paved Grist Mill Trail. We'll decide this on Saturday morning.

I would love to do something like that! Lets plan something and I can host :) How do I post an event on this page?

Sarah, On the "Trails, Tails + Ales (TT+A)" Home page there is a "Suggested" tab where members can suggest a hike that they would like to do. Any of the TT+A organizers can add a suggested hike to the calendar. Rachel has expressed a desire to do a hike on most Sundays at 11:30. I'm not sure if Rachel is thinking of focusing the Sunday hikes on Patapsco which is near her home or if she would also consider hikes in other locations. If you work with Rachel on this, I will go with whatever the 2 of you decide.

We are free on Sat., the 11th, or the following Sunday, the 19th. Good call about Mother's Day that Sunday, Wayne.

Hey Wayne, it says May 11, but I know you wanted it to say the 12th :)

Hi Janet, I just changed my mind concerning the hike date and changed it to May 11 because Sarah pointed out that Sunday, May 12 is Mother's Day.

Emily M., Becky Baker and Rachel: Sarah pointed out that Sunday, May 12, is Mother's Day. I thought that it was thoughtless of me to schedule a hike on a day in which so many people may not be able to attend so I rescheduled our hike for Saturday, May 11. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and I hope that this change doesn't upset your plans too much.
