Noble Knob Backdoor [FS RD 70/7220] Scout

Time-frame for today's event: 9AM-3PM

[Also can be titled: In search of Noble Knob-the 'backway']

Today, i'm just going to take a drive up FS Rd 70, 7220,[masked], etc. [Greenwater Lakes area] to explore and find the 'back side' of the Noble Knob Trail (NOT the Corral Pass side!) When we find it, we can hike some of it. FYI-we may encounter snow patches on BOTH the road and trail. I have hiked to Noble Knob from this point before, but it's been a few years. It'll be fun to find it again..

There will not be a significant hike scheduled today--we're just scouting out a trail to enjoy later this summer..{approximately 2 miles or less-depending on snow cover and accessibility}

[We can enjoy a stop at Wapiti Woolies in Greenwater for refreshment and shopping afterwards]

Rain or shine!

Current forecast [Greenwater]: High of 73. 70% chance of showers. [updated 6/27]

Please bring: water, an energy snack or two, clothing to protect you from the elements AND according to the forecast, sturdy/comfortable footwear + bag for wet/soiled pairs (Remember, we may venture out on the trail for a little bit, if conditions allow)

We'll be taking notes, pictures and make plans for a summer hike to this location.

    Great day exploring the 'back side' to Noble Knob. We got pretty far before hitting a bit of snow. Not bad though. The road is clear and in good condition. Room for 5-6 cars at the TH. It's a good 4+ miles to Noble Knob from this direction..and steeper. We managed to hike 1.5 miles up to a saddle. Corral Pass is easier and more popular (crowded usually) but the road is hell to drive on. Reports say it is STILL closed due to snow. Will do this entire trail from FR[masked] (Greenwater Lakes side) later this summer when the huckleberries will likely be in abundance.

    Good Hike and Conversations, weather cooperated with views of mtn ranges and Noble Knob, traversed some snow, and finished the day with an Elk sighting and huckleberry ice-cream
