"Whitewater Rafting Tieton River with Blue Sky Outfitters Tieton River Scenery

Class 3 to 4
Intermediate
About 3.0 hours East of Seattle, near Yakima, WA

Without a doubt, the best overall whitewater trip of the year!

Non-stop action with hardly a breather, this is the fastest moving and fastest dropping river in the state of Washington. Just upstream from where your trip begins, the Tieton River blows out of Rimrock Dam, giving you up to 19 miles of non-stop whitewater - and it's even the warmest river water in the state, too! Blast through Wild Rose, High Noon, and the unforgettable Waffle Wall. Rugged volcanic basalt cliffs line both sides of this mountain canyon, and the sun shines bright in these dry and arid hills. Our guides love this river above all others!

Dinner Included:
Blue Sky Outfitters' Famous Top Sirloin Steak Barbecue

After you get off the water, we will shuttle you back to the top where you can change into dry clothes while we heat up the grills. Always an important part of the trip, our food is one of the reasons our guests come back year after year! Enjoy our Top Sirloin Steak BBQ, fresh salad, corn on the cob, french bread, and lemonade to finish off your trip."

It took me awhile to post the photos. It wouldn't let me do it through the website for some reason, but I just tried the iPhone app and it let me do it from there. It was a great trip.

So just to check in with those leaving Saturday morning. We will meet at 9:45am at SR512 park and ride? That time may not be early enough if we need to be in Tieton by 1pm (almost a 3 hour trip via I-90). It's over 3.5 hours via hwy 12 according to Bing maps. Wsdot travel advisories for hwy 12 show an additional wait for construction of up to 45 minutes. We may be clear of slowdowns on I-90 by mid morning. Perhaps we should meet at 9am?

    September 14, 2012

  • Neil

Please beware that there is currently a small fire in the Rimrock Lake area. While it is not expected to impact rafting in any way, please take extra precautions if you're over 65, have breathing issues or other medical conditions.

    September 14, 2012

Blue Sky has just made available 4 additional spots for the Tieton River rafting trip tomorrow afternoon. If you haven't signed up and paid through Blue Sky yet, do so immediately to secure your last-minute spot!

Dustin and I will be leaving (most likely join the meetup folks) Saturday morning. We plan on staying in a hotel in Yakima Saturday night. Two words- hot shower! Heehee!

    September 12, 2012

    • Neil

Hey! They do have hot showers at the state park campgrounds... it just costs 50 cents for 3 minutes! :-)

Suzanne, I emailed the info (that David just gave) to you. Did you not receive it?

    September 10, 2012

    • Suzanne

Hi Yvonne, yes, thanks for the info. And I can pick you up. How about 10:15 a.m. Sat.?

      September 11, 2012

  • Neil

David - I meant that I will meet at the designated meet spot (512 P&R) Friday, pick up people who want to camp at YSSP that night, and drive to Yakima. I will also return to Lakewood Sat evening to drop people off. However I'll need to know what time to be at the P&R on Friday.

    September 10, 2012

  • Neil

David - you replied to me personally :-) I'll camp Fri and come back Sat and pick people up at the 512 P&R too. But if the pickup time is sufficiently late I will take I90 through Ellensburg since I don't want to go through White Pass at night.

I already paid for a site at YSSP for Saturday night for myself & Suzanne. I'm not sure about all of their sites, but my reservation states that only 2 tents (or one RV & one tent) are allowed on ours & that is strictly enforced. Has anyone else here camped there before?

    September 10, 2012

  • Neil

David - How exactly does your State Parks Pass work? I was wondering if this was doable: to reserve the same campsite at Yakima Sportsman for Fri and Sat nights, and those who want to camp can stop by on the appropriate nights. Otherwise people can make their own campsite arrangements?

    September 10, 2012

  • Neil

Most if not all campgrounds (including Hause Creek and Windy Point) in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest area in the vicinity of Rimrock Lake are already fully reserved the nights of Fri 9/14 and Sat 9/15. Other camping options include Yakima Sportsman State Park in Yakima (spaces available), or a private campground like Rimrock Lake Resort or Silver Beach Resort (not checked for availability yet). Please feel free to add any concerns, ideas and suggestions you may have. Thanks!

    September 8, 2012

  • Neil

Including discounts, the price ends up being around $71.50 per adult. If you haven't signed up already, there's still space to take advantage of this deal! :-)

Interested in camping but unsure as to when. Leaning towards Saturday night... I'm assuming if the rafting ends at 6:30 pm the sun will be setting soon afterwards, particularly as this will be mid-September, and we may be tired. But I'm flexible.

I am thinking about camping (or hotel) near there Fri and/or Sat night(s). Anyone else interested?

    August 20, 2012

    • Suzanne

I'm interested in camping. If Friday, I'd be leaving after work around 4 p.m. Otherwise, Sat. OK.

      August 20, 2012

    Hi y'all,
This trip sounds like fun. Any chance one of the carpools could stop at the Lacey Park and Ride off I-5?
