Natural building is the use of natural, minimally processed and locally available materials to construct homes and community spaces that are healthy for the people and the planet. Materials can be chosen for structure, insulation, beauty or protection from the elements based on their inherent qualities and relationships to one another. As part of the ongoing Sustainable Living Series, Colby-Sawyer College will update and educate the community about a series of natural building techniques and methods including straw bale, earthen plastering and cob, especially as they relate to the new Sunshack structure at Colby-Sawyer College. Join us to help build a straw bale wall and prepare it for receiving a base coat of earthen plaster.
