Carbon Tax Passes! Planet is Saved! (Citizens Climate Lobby Meeting)

Envisioning the future we want is the first step to creating it. CCL’s vision is to see the "Carbon Tax Passes!" headline in giant letters everywhere in June 2015. At our February meeting we’ll share how we’ll get there and the crucial role Tennessee will play. Then we’ll set group and personal goals for 2014 that will move us into scoring position.

To succeed, we’ll need to hone our skills in talking to conservatives. This month’s guest speaker is The Expert on that topic.

Jonathan Haidt, a professor in the Business and Society Program at NYU-Stern, is a social psychologist and author of The Righteous Mind and The Happiness Hypothesis. He's been featured on Bill Moyers and The Colbert Report. He’ll discuss how we came to be so politically polarized as a nation and what needs to happen to restore a more cooperative system of governing.

ABOUT CITIZENS CLIMATE LOBBY Citizens Climate Lobby is a national nonprofit whose mission is to create the political will for a sustainable climate. We are working toward introducing -- and passing! -- national carbon fee and dividend legislation in 2013. Fee and dividend -- a carbon tax with revenue returned to consumers -- will put the brakes on global warming.
If you'd like to listen to their regular monthly introductory call that explains the group and how it works, register for the call on their web site. The calls are every Wednesday evening at 7 pm CST.

"Most impressive is the work of the Citizens Climate Lobby, a relatively new, fast-growing, nonpartisan, nonprofit group with 50+ chapters across the United States and Canada. If you want to join the fight to save the planet, to save creation for your grandchildren, there is no more effective step you could take than becoming an active member of this group.”
- Dr. James Hansen, head of Goddard Institute for Space Studies, NASA

In today's meeting we discussed getting trained to give presentations; Climate Reality Project offers trainings (this year in Brazil and South Africa) to get the skills to do effective climate presentations!
