Tennessee: Climate Leader? - May CCL Meeting

Some people see Tennessee as a hindrance to climate legislation - a write-off state. Not so fast! Tennessee just might play a pivotal role in getting a climate bill introduced and passed. This month we'll take a close look at the role the Volunteer State plays in CCL's strategy, and how we can deliver our state's votes. This will be a lively and timely discusssion in advance of CCL's national conference and lobbying day in DC in June.

This Months' Guest Speaker:

                                          DANA NUCCITELLI, Skeptical Science

We'll also hear how the cost of cutting carbon emissions is a lot cheaper than we think, according to the latest IPCC report. This month's Guest Speaker (via live teleconference) is Guardian blogger and contributor Dana Nuccitelli -- who will explain the new economics of curbing fossil fuel use.

We'll hold our Nashville monthly meeting before the conference call. The Guest Speaker call starts at noon. Feel free to bring your own lunch. We'll have snacks and coffee.

ABOUT CITIZENS CLIMATE LOBBY Citizens Climate Lobby is a national nonprofit whose mission is to create the political will for a sustainable climate. We are working toward introducing -- and passing! -- national carbon fee and dividend legislation in 2015. Fee and dividend -- a carbon tax with revenue returned to consumers -- will put the brakes on global warming.

We invite you to listen to our weekly introductory call that explains our group and how we work. The calls are every Wednesday evening at 7 pm.  You can register for the call on our national web site.

"Most impressive is the work of the Citizens Climate Lobby, a relatively new, fastgrowing, nonpartisan, nonprofit group with 50+ chapters across the United States and Canada. If you want to join the fight to save the planet, to save creation for your grandchildren, there is no more effective step you could take than becoming an active member of this group.”
- Dr. James Hansen, head of Goddard Institute for Space Studies, NASA

The guest speaker this month summarized key points from the various releases of the IPCC report. Great material for future op-eds, LTEs, and cordial banter at family gatherings.
