Climate Change and Hurricane Sandy - Nashville CCL Meeting

Please join us for the monthly meeting of the Nashville chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby. {For some background on the relevance of Citizens Climate Lobby to Transition, please click here. More information about Citizens Climate Lobby is at the end of this announcement.}

The guest speaker on our national conference call this month is

Dr. Kevin Trenberth
National Center for Atmospheric Research

In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, there are many questions about this disaster's connection to climate change. For answers, we turn to Dr. Kevin E. Trenberth, Distinguished Senior Scientist in the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. He recently wrote in The Scientist, “As Mark Twain said in the late 19th century, ‘Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.’ Now humans are changing the weather, and nobody does anything about it! As we have seen this year, whether from drought, heat waves and wild fires, or super storms, there is a cost to not taking action to slow climate change, and we are experiencing this now.”

The Nashville monthly meeting will take place before the conference call. Meeting starts at 10:45. National call starts at Noon. Bring a brown bag lunch if you want. We'll have snacks and coffee.

ABOUT CITIZENS CLIMATE LOBBY  -- CCL  is a national nonprofit whose mission is to create the political will for a sustainable climate. We are working toward introducing -- and passing! -- national carbon fee and dividend legislation in 2013. Fee and dividend -- a carbon tax with revenue returned to consumers -- will put the brakes on global warming.
If you'd like to listen to their regular monthly introductory call that explains the group and how it works, register for the call on their web site below. The calls are every Wednesday evening at 7 pm CST.  Hope you'll do this even if you can't come to our meeting!
