Fellow Transpartisan Alliance Members,

This legislative session in Olympia brings us some great opportunities to come together for transpartisan action, including this opportunity to protect our civil liberties!

NDAA-related bills are about to be introduced this week in Olympia:
WA State Liberty Preservation Act – making detention of United States citizens and lawful resident aliens under the national defense authorization act a Class C felony

Rep. Overstreet (R) indicates that the legislation will be similar to this prior session version (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=2759&year=2011), with a change making violations a Class C felony. A similar but not identical bill is expected to be introduced in the Senate by Sen. Bob Hasegawa (D). These bills are expected to be introduced by early this coming week.

Rep. Overstreet and Sen. Hasegawa need YOUR help to get more co-sponsors to sign on EARLY this week before or immediately after introduction. We need to appeal to coalition prospects, and all contacts, to reach out and email and call their representatives and push them to co-sponsor the legislation to be introduced by Rep. Overstreet in the House, and Sen. Hasegawa in the Senate.

THIS IS A VERY TRANSPARTISAN ISSUE, and most Americans agree we need to fight back against the NDAA indefinite detention provisions. Please call your reps and senators in Olympia (http://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/), and ask your friends and family to do the same. Tell them: “I want you to sign on as a co-sponsor of the Overstreet and Hasegawa bills making detention of United States citizens and lawful resident aliens under the national defense authorization act a Class C felony.” Make it more personal: “I need you to preserve our freedoms/civil rights by co-sponsoring this bill!”

In transpartisan spirit,

Scott Shock
