Tri-County Adventure Group (Hike, Paddle & More!) Pages

Welcome to the Tri-County Social and Adventure group! We want to provide an exciting experience for everyone as we venture out and explore all that the western/northwestern part of the Upstate has to offer. In order to do that, there are a couple of things we ask that you keep in mind. For all outdoor events such as hiking and kayaking, you are responsible for yourself. Please read up on the hiking venue (most can be found on the sctrails.net website, otherwise try google) for more details of the hike concerning the level of difficulty. If it is a moderate or strenuous hike and you’re not sure of your ability, please join us for easy or shorter moderate hikes at first. Walking sticks are always helpful on any walk, and please be sure to bring plenty of fluids and snacks to meet your needs for the duration of the hike.

As for kayaking events, please be sure of your ability level before borrowing or renting kayaks. If you have never Eskimo rolled in a sit-inside kayak, please don’t rent or borrow a sit-inside. There are two great retail shops that offer kayak demonstrations that I recommend you attending if you are new to kayaking. Grady’s Great Outdoors in Anderson, and Sunrift Adventures in Travelers Rest both have periodic demos for the public to go out and try different kayaks. Not all kayaks are the same! To enjoy the adventure, you should be in one that fits your style, body, and ability.

Our aim is to hit the moderate level of most activities that we plan. Most hikes will be in the 4-8 mile moderate range. If you are a beginner and would like to lead a hike deemed “easy”, please let one of the leaders know via email and we will be glad to help you organize that. Also, if you really want to do something strenuous, we’re up for that, too. Most kayak paddles will be a 45-60 minute out, then return (2-2.5 hours total with break), but we may go longer if the group agrees. When the event participation exceeds 10, we will break into groups of 5 in order to accommodate different levels. We know that some want a faster pace than others, and again, we’ll do our best to make this a great experience for all. No one should ever hike or kayak alone!

We do not have any rules concerning the attendance of children for any of our events. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible guardian. Please be aware of your child's capability and know that you are responsible for their well being and whereabouts.

For any outdoor event, if you choose to bring a pet it is your responsibility to check beforehand if pets are allowed on the trail. If they are allowed, you are responsible for keeping your dog under control and away from the other hikers. A dog darting in front of a hiker trying to keep balance as they maneuver a trail is an accident waiting to happen that should never have to happen. Please keep them on a leash if they aren't trained well enough to stay under your command. For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, we greatly appreciate your cooperation!

Members are encouraged to carpool to the trail head for hikes if they desire. Use the website email to coordinate those efforts but please allow enough time to meet and drive to the trailhead so it will not detain the rest of the members on that particular day. Additionally please call the organizers cell phone if you change your RSVP on the day of the hike or are going to be late.

We will attempt to have a Meet and Greet schedules approximately every six weeks. The first is January 18, 2013 at the Islander in Pendleton. There will be 8 meet and greets, and the locations will be 2 each in Anderson, Pickens, Seneca, and Clemson/Pendleton. If you have a suggestion for a nice casual dining restaurant that can accommodate a group please let me know.
