As a prelude to the CAVG November Boulder City Meetup, I will conduct a presentation with my own photos ― followed by a question and answer session ― on my past hiking experiences in this desert area southeast of Las Vegas.
Some of the topics covered will be: Boulder City’s location , a very brief history of the creation of Boulder City and the construction of Boulder (now Hoover) Dam, the still-preserved parts of BoulderCity today, hiking trails in and around Boulder City, the Quality Inn Hotel and surrounding residential neighborhood, meal alternatives (from takeout at Vons-Safeway deli to 5-star dining in Las Vegas), typical November weather in B.C., what to pack for desert hiking, air-fare alternatives, scenic flights from the B.C. airport to the western rim of the Grand Canyon, and much more. And don't be surprised to see some long-horn sheep within a five-minute walk from the hotel.
You can make this an independent adventure to do with someone (hiking alone here is not advisable). From your hotel, some of you may wish to take a rental car into Las Vegas for an evening show, while others may want to spend time in the hotel hot tub after a dinner in Boulder City. Some of you may want to head over to Red Rock Canyon while others will hike the Black Mountain.
Come to the presentation and learn about all your options!
