Tidy Paddle

  • New Richmond Kayak / Canoe Ramp

401 Front Street, , New Richmond, OH (map)

    38.952896 -84.285263

    Here is the plan:
After speaking with a few members, there seemed to be an interest to paddle and
do a little community service. 14 members turned out for the first Tidy Paddle!

We will meet up the last Thursday of each month at the New Richmond Kayak Ramp to splash around the Mighty Ohio.

The idea is to meet before push off time to police the area around the landing/ramp, and pick up any flotsam that may have found a home from the rise and fall of the river. Some supplies will be provided. There shouldn’t be too much to do, as long as the river behaves itself.

The goal is for the Tri-State Kayakers to adopt the landing and help the village keep it squared away till some grant $$ can be awarded next year.

    To Recap:
    When – October[masked]

    Time - 6:00pm - No Clean up!

Where – The New Richmond canoe/kayak ramp, which is located next to The Landing Restaurant at the corner of Front and Quarry Sts. GPS: N[masked] x W084 17.092.

Experience - You should have night paddling experience for this paddle. Bring your Nav light as it will be getting dark as we paddle back to the landing. The sun sets at 6:38pm.

Please note this Nav light reminder:

    Vessels under Oars
“A vessel under oars... shall have an electric torch or lighted lantern showing a white light in sufficient time to prevent collision.” One that is visible for 360 degrees is best! Remember, your butt is on the water with the highest point being the top of your head. Boaters approaching from astern can’t see your headlamp! Making yourself as visible as possible is THE LAW & YOUR RESPONABILTY!

Pre-Paddle - Everyone is responsible for their own grub and fluids.

What To Bring - Yak / PFD - life vest (must be securely worn and fully buckled) / warm weather clothing / water/ bug spray / lights/camera. Come on, you know what you need, we’re adults here!

The Green Kayak Market, at 204 Front St. in New Richmond, has kayaks for rent. Check their web site at or call Chris at[masked] for more details.

    Restrooms - Restroom close by.

Weather Forecast – Will be given two days out.

River Forecast – Same as weather.

    Sunset - 6:38pm

Post-Paddle Sustenance – Open for now, working on an idea!

Liability Waiver - As always, by joining in this event you are acknowledging that you have read and agree to abide by the Tri-State Kayakers liability waiver. You can find this waiver on the Tri-State Kayakers web site, at: If you do not agree with said liability waiver, don't show up!

OK by me too….. 30% - 50% chance of rain Tuesday evening through Thursday, rising to 70% Thursday evening, then 30% on Friday with a high of 65deg. Friday evening is forecasted cloudy, but no rain and breeze. Have family commitment Saturday night.
Forecast is below but subject to change:
      Friday, November 1 at 6pm
      Temperature: 61 °F Dewpoint: 45 °F Wind Chill: N/A Surface Wind: W 8mph
Sky Cover: 54% Precipitation Potential: 11% Relative Humidity: 56%

So Friday evening or we could meet at The Front Street Café @ 6:30pm on Wednesday night where my nephews band ‘The Goodle Boys’ (good bluegrass) are playing, to celebrate the last Tidy Paddle of the year! Mother Nature seems to have it out for me again; so maybe someone else should make the decision. Kathy???
