Does any one else have free time on Thanksgiving Day?

ANY SIZE RECREATIONAL KAYAK IS GOOD,

Thank you Shauna, Bill & Larry.....

With a marathon being run in Cincinnati Thanksgiving morning,

we will launch and return to the Mike Finks Landing in Covington, Ky.

No shuttle will be necessary.

Plan on a leisure 3 hour paddle, initially heading toward Dayton,ky

then returning with the current back to Covington.

WEATHER: to be updated by Mr. Bill:

Remember: Dress for the weather/water temp, whistle, gloves, ect..

Kayak skirt will keep you dry and warmer.

Pocket warmers are good,  Dry out fit in your vehicle.

For cold feet, try a towel under your heels,

Liability Waiver – As always, by joining in this event you are acknowledging that you have read and agree to abide by the Tri-State Kaykers liability waiver. You can find this waiver in the Files section of the Tri-State Kayakers web site

SAFETY SIGN IN:Everyone will sign in before launching: your name, Emergency contact person and phone number. I realized if someone required 911, I do not know last names or who to call. This list is kept in my dry bag during the paddle, then shredded when I get home. Hopefully we will never have to use it. :D

I really wish I could go. I did paddle in November and so have a year's worth of paddling at least once in each month. Have a safe and fun paddle. Those not going should at least get out and enjoy a nature walk today. Happy Turkey Day to all and to all a good bite!

FROM CINCINNATI CREW TEAM: The Licking River Map

From the Licking River Boathouse, we launch downstream (toward downtown Cincinnati) and row upstream (South) on the Licking River. We can also row on the Ohio River, but most people choose to row on the Licking as it is more protected and has less commercial river traffic. Barges do come on the river for Ashland Oil and Newport Steel -- if you see one coming toward you, get to a straight-away and tuck in to shore.

Generally, we stay between the mouth of the Licking and I-275, about a 5 mile stretch.

I did a recon of the listed locations on Monday for a meetup idea I have this winter. The docks have been pulled at Schmidt Field and there is a cable running through a removeable post across the entrance to the parking lot and ramp. The post & cable were laying on the ground allowing anyone to drive over it which I did. Even if the cable is up, it is an easy carry over the curb to the waters edge. I will try to find a ph.# for Cincinnati Parks today and get more info.

At 3:30pm on Monday the gates were up at Public Landing and nobody to stop me from driving in. Using PL would be quicker and easier; straight down Kellogg Av.

Next time we will use Public landing, Thanksgiving Turkey Run will have crowded parking lots, people and traffic.. Thanks for the recon.

Hi Kathy! Sorry, I had a bit of a migraine and fell asleep about 6pm on my couch last night. My Thanksgiving Dinner is in Amelia about 3ish. So I could drop off my food stuff before the paddle, go for a paddle and then go straight there. So maybe something like 11-12 might work better.
