An Agile transformation is like any other organization change initiative - and experience shows that effective change management can make the difference between failure and success.  Two things matter when changing from one system or practice to another - accelerating implementation and increasing adoption.  This is about changing people's behavior - and asking others to adopt new practices and work according to a new set of values is a big deal.

Steve McGee brings his change management and OD background to help organizations sort through the layers of undefined issues when changing from traditional business practices to become Agile, and when integrating Agile into existing systems.

We will start with an quick overview of an organizational change framework, and the roles people take.  Then, we will look at an example of each role as it plays its part in driving adoption throughout the framework.  Finally, we will split into groups based on the roles we want to explore and troubleshoot resistance and plan what to do about it.

Through presentation and exercises, you will learn a framework for understanding organizational change, the roles involved and what to do to move forward.  We will identify skills to work successfully with those who stand little to gain from adopting, and introduce proven approaches to dealing with resistance.  The goal is to take something away from the event you can implement immediately.

We will focus on presenting the tools and concepts at the start, and will follow that with group exercises.  Be prepared to work with others to analyze opportunities to apply change management practices and develop plans or complete work to drive adoption and overcome resistance.

Steve McGee is an Agile Change Management consultant bringing organizational agility to companies committed to developing enterprise-level change capability.  He both runs change projects with an Agile approach, and helps structure software companies to support Agile teams.

Steve spent 10 years as a leadership training and development professional followed by six years as a cross-cultural management coach in Japan - finding ways to integrate systems that were based on conflicting values. He introduced Agile to a software firm in 2007, and subsequently applied agile principles and practices to projects as diverse as changing accounting policy, events, and change management.

Enjoyed Steve McGee's talk. It makes sense that change management for an organization adopting Agile should be executed with an Agile philosophy.

Steve McGee on agile change management - "Spend less time trying to get it right and more time telling employees what is important so that they can get it right".

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
