According to Tri-Valley Trails, details include: 8 miles, 3.5 hours, 2150' elevation gain. Highlights: aerobic workout, native chaparral landscape, panoramic views, good birding, gorgeous trees, and a seasonal creek. Pace will be steady/brisk, but we can regroup if people become strung out.
We start at the base of Mt. Diablo. the first half hour climbs steadily with stunningly unusual rock formations popping our eyes out. the climb to the summit is quite steep but ends with a pano view of the Mt.Diablo foothills, the valleys, and beyond. the second half is downhill along a shady creek bed. A final push out of the canyon leads back to the start.
Macedo Ranch trailhead (see below) to Wall Point Road, to Ridge View Trail, (shortcut option using Secret Trail will shave one hour and 850' elevation gain), to Summit Trail. Return downhill through canyon on BBQ Terrace Road to Stage Road to Dusty Road to Wall Point Rd.
Bring: water, layered clothing, sunscreen, hat, snacks/lunch, trekking poles (if desired), binoculars, etc.
Directions: Go North on 680 to Danville. Exit on Stone Valley Rd. Pass the high school and turn Left on Green Valley Road. Macedo Ranch is at the end of the road, about a mile from the turn. There is a state park fee for parking.
