Harvesting Rainwater - Practical Design Opportunity

  • May 4, 2013 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Come join us at David's place where we will put our "permaculture thinking caps" on and practice design skills particularly focusing on rain water harvesting.

There is about 9 rain barrels and two large roof areas to collect water. You will also be able to see the Mandala Raised Bed garden.

This meetup will be a great opportunity to practice techniques for setting up a blueprint / plan for catching water and designing a strategy to create a low maintenance watering system that will give your plants the right amount of moisture.  Since we will be getting quite a lot more rain before the more dry months arrive, it is a great time to start setting up for rainwater collection on your property.

Feel free to bring along any design books you have so we have some good resources to work with.

If you would like to learn more about this process, are getting prepared to become more sustainable on your property, or if you just want to come check out what people are doing in your local community, we would love to have you present at this meetup!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

We got a good solid plan for implementation both from observation and also using some software to calculate water catchment.

Hey, so Time for tomorrow's event has changed to 5pm to 8pm, and maybe a bit later if people feel like staying. Look forward to all of your input, I think it's going to be a nice sunny evening for some creative planning!

    See you all soon!

wow, that's a big last minute time change. I can't promise anything either as I planned my day's activities to leave 12-3 free for this. If I can, I'll try to make it by.

    Hey everyone,

My address is 2567 Kitchener Ave, Port Coquitlam. My home number is[masked] is you can't find it. It's a brown house covered in cedars with a small lighthouse in the drive way. There are two possible dates and times for this event and I would love to hear input on which one works best. Either Saturday May 4 from 5-8pm or Sunday May 5 from 12-3pm. Let me know yay or nay so we can set it up. There will be snacks and beverages but if everyone could bring a little something that would be great seeing as both times overlap with mealtimes.

    See you soon,

    David

Just to let everyone know, yesterday I sent out an e-mail notifying attendees and people who were interested in this meetup that David came down with strep throat a couple days ago and isn't able to host today. We are moving it to next week so anyone who originally wanted to attend but couldn't has another opportunity. Thanks & looking forward

I won't be able to make it after all as I will now be in Whistler celebrating my good friend's birthday. I was looking forward to the workshop, I hope to make it out there soon again for another fun event!

Thank you Carl for the info! it's greatly appreciated. I think I will be able to make it. I may be out looking for Shorebirds in Ladner in the morning and then cross over to where the workshop will be. I may be a little late but I will try to get there on time. Super stoked!

Really wish I could go, but have plans already. I have 2 rain barrels at my place that still need to be set up! April 6th not confirmed yet....got my fingers crossed!

Is this date/time still tentative? again I have a class 1-4 that Sat, plus Strathcona community garden has their seed swap event from 1-3 that day. Earlier, or on Sun, would be better for me, rain or shine.

    March 19, 2013

    • Carl

Still not tentative - it could be changed and I still need to confirm with David. I am teaching a workshop on April 7th, although only until early afternoon.

Hope I can make it! It's calling for this drizzle all week. It'd really help to learn how to turn it into a long lasting resource!
